The showing against Alloa delighted manager Allan Johnston. Speaking to the media after the 1-0 at the Indodrill Stadium, he said:-
“I think the boys showed a lot of character putting in a really good performance. It must have been an entertaining game to watch. Obviously I thought that we had a lot of shots from outside the box and a lot of half chances.
“They has a couple of chances in the first half as well but overall I think we thoroughly deserved to win.
“It was a really good goal I think we will need to put Jacko upfront the way he is finishing. It was a really good finish and I think the boys deserved the win. You could see how hard they worked, it is a hard place to come and credit to Alloa, they have good players, they make it difficult and you can see how why have had a lot of results this year.
“We showed our quality at the end there, I am delighted for the boys and we just have to kick on into a massive game for us next Saturday (at home to Falkirk).
“We are getting back to creating chances again, getting back to being a threat and it is good when you see guys like Higgy coming off the bench. You can see the areas he gets into, he gets on the ball and gives us a bit of calmness and quality as well. It is great when you have competition for places and good players that can make a difference.
“There were a lot of chances throughout the whole game and we just couldn’t get it in the net. Thankfully Jackson managed to do that. We were probably in a lot of good areas especially towards the end and we have to finish them off, be more clinical at times.
“I can’t fault the boys effort, I thought they were different class. I thought the crowd stayed with them for the full game, there was a good atmosphere and we are just pleased to get the three points and hopefully that kick starts our season.”
The manager reminded us that every game in the Championship is “massive” and that there are no easy games.
“I think at the start of the season and you look at Alloa coming up as a match we should be winning but I think they have shown this year that they are well organised and hard to beat. It is a hard place to come especially with the size of the pitch.
“It is a massive three points for us, now we need to sort out our home form and start getting wins at home as well.”
When it was pointed out that Dunfermline were just four point# behind Morton who went int9 fourth today, AJ replied “it is a crazy league.
“I think our season is just starting to be honest with you. We have been slow starters and even after some of the results tha we have had, we are still in contention. So it is up to us now, I think we are more than capable with the players that we have got and the squad that we have got to mount a challenge.
“But it is about that consistency week in week out and if we keep working like we did there then we will not be far away.”
Looking ahead to next weekend AJ signed off:-
“It doesn’t get any bigger than a derby. If you cannot get up for that then it is a bad day. I’m sure that the fans will turn out in force and as they said, hopefully we can get those three points at home”
Alloa Athletic manager Jim Goodwin felt that his team had to be more clinical when the good opportunities come along.
“We should have been going in at half time 2-0 up ... listen to audio for more reaction.
