Pars boss Allan Johnston was disappointed that the failure of referee Barry Cook to penalise Caley for what he felt was a clear foul cost Dunfermline their lead and ultimately the chance of victory at Inverness. He told the media:-

“The first half was really open, it was end to end and I suppose it must have been good to watch. Both teams were going at it trying to get the goals and from our point of view we scored two cracking goals but we also conceded two goals where we should have done better.

“You always look at goals and say that you should have done better. For one of the goals it was a clear foul on Malaury in the middle of the park. The referee was in a great position and he doesn’t give a free kick, he was only ten yards away.

“He has got to see that is a clear free kick. He doesn’t catch the ball, he catches him with both feet. So it was a really poor decision from the referee but even after that we have to defend it better as well.

“It was frustrating for us but on the positive, we created far more chances than we have done recently. We scored two really good goals. Young Aidan Keena has not played a lot of football but what an impression that was, what a start!

“He came in and hit the ground running with two excellent goals. He has been out injured, he is just back and not done a lot of training. He is just getting up to match speed but you can see the quality that he brings.

“I think it gives everybody a lift, the fans, the players just everybody at the club when someone comes in and makes an impact like that.

“The first was a great touch to take it forward, he cut inside and it was a really composed finish. He was actually unlucky only to score a couple in the first half, he maybe should have had more.

“We were attacking really well even in the second half I felt that we were in some great positions. We have to take advantage on the counterattack because Inverness were quite direct towards the end when they had big guys on upfront. We looked dangerous on the counterattack but we need to make the most of the opportunities and kill teams off just with that final pass.”

Aidan Connolly hit the crossbar and Robbie Muirhead blasted a late chance over the top. AJ agreed that there were chances to win the match adding:-

“There was a great ball on at the end that we could probably have got in front of. I think Brad McKay defended really well towards the end. There was a great ball from Aidan Connolly in the last couple of minutes and there was a lot of attacking play so that is a positive for us.

“We created more chances and like Robbo we are frustrated that we didn’t get the three points that make a massive difference in this league.”

The manager explained that many of his five changes to his starting eleven were enforced.

“We have a couple of injuries - Tom Beadling, James Vincent - guys like that. It was an opportunity with a big squad, to give some of the boys game time and I think they took their chance really well.”
