Link to audio of both managers post match chances comments

It was no surprise that Dunfermline Athletic manager Allan Johnston was disappointed to lose 2-0 at home to Dundee United. He told the media:-

“I thought there was not much in between the teams in the first half. We lost a goal from a free kick that I thought was the other way around. I thought it was a foul on Faiss to be honest. I don’t know what the referee saw there but even still when the free kick came in it was the smallest guy on the pitch who won a header and scores.

“That kind of sums up our defending recently. We are giving away really cheap goals, giving teams an edge and then we are constantly trying to chase games.

“The goals that we are losing just now we cannot afford to lose like that. We cannot afford to give good trains a start. We are not scoring enough goals either, it is a difficult situation that it puts you in - you are always chasing games, always liable to lose more goals when you are that open and trying to get back in the game.”

Asked what it needs to turn fortunes around the manager responded:-

“It is getting that first goal. Obviously winning breeds confidence as well so we need to grind out a result, we need to work incredibly hard for each other and get that result that we need. We need to start defending really well again because we are losing really cheap goals and that doesn’t give you a chance.”

The manager made three changes for the visit of United with Ryan Williamson, Tom Beadling and Myles Hippolyte taking the places of Malaury Martin, Aidan Connolly and Andy Ryan but he felt that everybody had to make a difference.

“It is not just the ones who were left out today, it is team thing. There are a lot of big games coming up and we will need everybody over the course of the couple of games this week.

“Dundee United are a good team, you wouldnt really say that they created loads of chances either. It was a bit of a stale game and there wasn’t much in it but we gave them goals on a plate. Even the penalty that they got at the end it was just a bit of lack of composure especially when you go a goal down.”

Next up are two away games at Inverness and Alloa and AJ said that every game is a big game.

“We need to get back on track, we need to start winning games and we need to start scoring goals and defending better. There is a lot of work to be done, we need to improve - we are well aware of that but we seem to be better away from home recently.”

Asked about Mark Durnan, Allan explained that the central defender has had surgery for a hernia.

“It is disappointing because he has formed a good relationship with Ashy in the period that they played together. He was starting to struggle a bit and had to have an operation the other day.”
