Dunfermline manager Allan Johnston thought that his side dominated from start to finish:-
“It s usually a hard place to come, we should probably have scored a couple more goals but it is always good to score and beat your rivals. You could see what it meant to the supporters and the players. They are massive games and it was important for us as well to start to put results together.”
AJ knew that while the score remained 1-0 there was always the chance that Falkirk could have stolen the win away from Dunfermline:-
“When you only have one and had so many good opportunities and been in so many good areas you are always thinking canthe6nsneak one from a set piece or just a long ball over the top. You are always aware of that but I thought that it was a really good performance and it is hard to even single out individuals because everybody played quality today.
“Some of the football, some of the passing, it was good to get a clean sheet and I think we were a bit unfortunate not to score some more.”
It took until the last minute of the 90 before the result looked sealed. Myles Hipolyte, an 81st minute substitute for Andy Ryan, stuck away the second but the manager said you can never relax even when it looks like you are in an unassailable position:-
“You never relax until the game is finished, I have been in football long enough. We were looking for a big performance from the players today. We had a big support, there was over a thousand fans there today so it was important that we didn’t let them down.
“I think the boys did that and the supporters will go home happy. We just have to make sure that we keep on progressing, keep on building on this type of performance and start working our way up the league because you can see how tight it is.”
Myles Hippolyte only came on in 81 minutes but he made a big impact with several shots and a goal in a very short period of time to impress. Allan commented:-
“It is great when you have competition like that. It was the same for some of the other boys as well, look at the reserve game during the week. We won 5-0 and that shows you the competition for places, the quality that we have got for when maybe other teams have suspensions and injuries. It makes sure that everybody is playing at top form when you have that type of competition as well.”
Having said that moving up the league table is a priority, the Pars are up to fifth but Allan cautioned:-
“It is really tight though. There are only a couple of points between us and Thistle in ninth place. It is massive to put a run of results together. Three points in this league makes a massive difference. We have maybe had too many draws so hopefully that is us starting to kick on. We want to be challenging up the top, that is where we want to be.”
Ask to comment on the non stop backing from the fans that continued throughout the whole game, AJ said:-
“It came from the performance. Obviously sometimes it takes the boys to produce on the park but it is brilliant. It makes some difference when the fans get behind the players. You can see the confidence that the players started playing with. I think the boys repaid them with the quality play, the goals and getting the win. We are delighted.”
Falkirk manager Ray McKinnon summed up his team`s performance saying that they "were second best" all over the park.
