Cappielow service handy for Andy
Monday, 24th Sep 2018“As a centre forward I am confident of my own ability. I know that if I am playing and I get the right service we will score goals.”
Despite the 1-1 scoreline striker Andy Ryan described the atmosphere of the away dressing room at Cappielow like that following a defeat.
“We dominated large parts of the game but it is a difficult place to come and a point is probably a decent enough result but given the way the game went we felt that we should have got all three.
“I know playing upfront in this team that there are players behind me that will find me with passes. As soon as the ball drops to them I am on my way. I felt as though I could have scored a couple more but it was good to get a goal.”
Morton stopper Ryan Scully saved an effort from Andy immediately after he had scored. There was a suggestion of offside though perhaps?
“I don’t know, as I took my touch it was tight. It you just have to keep playing until the referee blows his whistle. As a centre forward you are always going to miss more than you score.”
The striker had sympathy for his keeper Lee Robinson:-
“As a goalkeeper if you make a mistake nine times out of ten it is going to end up in a goal. Robbo made a great save in the first half at 0-0, it is an individual error but these things happen in a game and we just have to move on from it.”
Service is something that strikers thrive off and Andy had no argument over the supply at Cappielow:-
“It is something that we have been working on all week, getting the ball wide and getting the ball into the box and getting two v ones in a wide area. On Saturday I think it worked, I think we were a real threat throughout the game and as I said it is a hard place to come and I think we were the dominant team.”
Having scored just one goal in the last five matches, it was good to end the goal drought. Andy admitted that it had been hard looking on from the sidelines.
“As a centre forward I am confident of my own ability. I know that if I am playing and I get the right service we will score goals.”
The goal yielded only a draw and takes the run to five without a win. Andy felt that it is frustrating but they will take the point and move on to a Friday night’s game against Partick Thistle.
