Manager Allan Johnston was much happier with his team’s performance against Morton. He told the media:-
“They have everything today, they played really well. This is a hard place to come, we have been here over the last couple of seasons and it is always a difficult game but I thought we were so much in control. We totally dominated the game and probably we should have been out of sight if we had taken more of our chances.
“It was a really good finish from Andy Ryan for the goal following a good pass from Louis Longridge. We got into a lot of similar situations and we probably have to kill teams off.
“They got a bit of luck with the goal. Obviously we let him (Scott Tiffoney) inside but it was an individual error from Lee.
“But today there were a lot more positives than negatives. Some of the football was different class. We passed the ball well and some of the guys who have been waiting patiently to get in the team played really well.
“I thought Aidan Connolly was different class. Andy Ryan took his chance, he is a goalscorer and if you give him chances he will score goals. I thought Malaury gave us a lot of composure in the middle of the park, that is probably something that we have been missing - just that little bit of quality for somebody to calm it down, get on the ball and spray passes.”
Given Cappielow is not one of the grounds that have yielded the Pars many points in the last few seasons, a draw might have seemed like the kind of result that many would have taken ahead of the match but the manager disagreed:-
“In the situation we are in we have to try and win every game. We certainly didn’t deserve that today, we were by far the better team. We were so much in control and we are just frustrated not to come away from here with three points.”
Goalscorer Scott Tiffoney claimed that he had put a swerve on his shot but asked to comment on Morton’s equaliser just eight minutes from the end AJ said:-
“There was a lot of pace on the ball but he has held his hand up in there. It is out of character for him (Lee Robinson), it was a mistake and we just have to move on and make sure that we are ready for next week.
“Usually he would save that 99 times out of 100, it is an individual mistake.
“Going forward I thought we passed the ball really well, we looked really comfortable. Obviously towards the end they had a couple of crosses into the box when they were trying everything to try and get a goal but other than that I thought we defended really well as well.
“It was such a dominant display and it shows you the character of the players, especially after the results of late that they can put in such a good performance.
“There was a lot of good passing, picking up good positions. Faiss (El Bakhtaoui) is getting back to his best as well so you can see the quality that we have got but we need to turn performances like that into three points.”
