Saturday’s stalemate was car silencer

Could Forever FM break the Connolly car share silence?

Alloa Athletic assistant manager, Paddy Connolly was relying on a lift home from the game on Saturday from his son. Just imagine the car share chat as Aidan Connolly tried to avoid talking about the goalless draw. Aidan claimed that his dad helps out with a lot of things but advice on how to beat Alloa won’t be one of them!

“Before the game we were not talking about it, it was just another day. I’ll be taking him home so I will speak to him in the car and just talk about how we thought the game went. Just general chat.”

There will be a repeat meeting in four weeks time when Alloa visit again in the Irn Bru Challenge Cup which reminded Aidan “I will need to watch what I say.”

Such Connolly clashes have happened before in March two years ago when Aidan was at Raith Rovers, he added:-

“I don’t have a great record to be fair. We drew that game as well. They are a good team, they work hard and for a part time outfit they are a decent squad.”

Aidan made his eleventh Dunfermline appearance in Saturday’s home match against Alloa Athletic and since he was introduced off the bench in 64th minute it was one of his longest. The 23 year old who was signed from York City in the summer has only started one match, the Irn Bru Challenge Cup tie in Inverness. He claims that he would love to have been able to play more:-

“In most of them I have come on off the bench which is not what I want. I want to be playing every week. It is frustrating and I feel like I just want a chance to play and hopefully I will get that soon because I feel that I have a lot to offer to the team.”

On Saturday when Aidan came on he tried to inject pace and much needed urgency into the game, he said:-

“We were trying to win the game. We were not as good though, Alloa pressed us well and they tried to play as well. I thought we kicked it a bit too long, we were trying to play it in behind but they were sitting deep so it was hard for us to do that. Hopefully in the next game we can correct that.”

After no goals in the last three games, finding the net again is becoming a greater and greater priority. Aidan immediately tried to solve that with a couple of shots at goal and he continued:-

“I have not had a lot of game time, it has been ten to fifteen minutes so it is hard to come on and score. We have a lot of good players in the dressing room and I think we can score goals, it is just that we have hit a blip just now.

“You never know if you are going to get on. Obviously every game you should expect to get on, but you never know what to expect. When you get less time it is hard and when the ball is getting kicked long it is hard to get involved in the game.”

“I want to be playing every week, no footballer is wanting to sit on the bench. A lot of them will tell you that, I want to play every game and I want a chance to play and prove myself.

“Other boys have had game time and I feel like I have not had enough. I have done okay every time that I have come on. Hopefully I will get more chances.

“I will play anywhere. We were playing 4-3-2-1 on Saturday, I like that formation. It is good for forward players because I like to link and obviously you have another three attackers up there with you, that helps. Whatever formation doesn’t matter.”
