DAFC sign Robbie Muirhead

Dunfermline Athletic are delighted to announce signing of MK Dons forward Robbie Muirhead, for an undisclosed fee until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

Robbie Muirhead chose to sign for Dunfermline until the end of the 2018-2019 season. Speaking to this website he explained how his move back to Scotland came about:-

“I had my pre season down at Milton Keynes and was involved in the squad for the first couple of league games. Then I felt that I had to ask my agent if there were possibilities of a move away. There was nothing at the start but last week I found out that there were a couple of clubs interested and this was one of them.”

Robbie was known to Allan Johnston from his time at Kilmarnock and the player confessed that did influence his decision to come to Dunfermline. By quite a co-incidence Robbie also finds himself re-united with his former coach at MK Dons, Stevie Crawford.

“When I first moved to Hearts I was there with Craw and then when I moved on to MK Dons. Knowing a few members of the back room staff helps.”

It is not just the back room staff though since he played with Lee Ashcroft in the Kilmarnock youth team and played with Aidan Connolly and Mark Durnan at Dundee United as well.

“It is a lot easier settling in when you know some of the boys because I have been at a few clubs.”

Having already been at Kilmarnock, Dundee United, Hearts and MK Dons, it is hard to comprehend that Robbie is still only 22.

“I was seventeen when I made my debut so I have been about for a long time” he said.

Robbie promised that the Pars fans can expect 100 per cent from him and he hopes to score a few goals and be credited with a few assists as well.

“I need to start scoring goals. In the past I have been played left, right and centre forward but have never really had a settled position. I am very flexible, as long as the manager finds a place to put me!”

Although he has played U20s matches for Kilmarnock and a pre season friendly with Hearts at East End Park, Robbie has not played a competitive senior match at there.

“I am pleased to come back up to Scotland. It was alright at MK Dons when I was playing. The new manager brought in his own kind of players, that was always going to happen with a new manager. The opportunities for me were less, I wasn’t in his plans and that made a difference in coming back up the road.”

Robbie hopes to be in the squad for Saturday’s home game against Inverness Caley Thistle but that is subject to international clearance.

“I am looking forward to getting started. Today was my first training session here, it was good and I enjoyed it.”

Manager Allan Johnston was pleased to add three players to his squad on the final day of the transfer window and knows from his Kilmarnock days that Robbie can play several positions. He commented:-

“It gives you that extra bit of competition and hopefully a wee bit of quality as well. At Kilmarnock he played more as a striker. Over the last couple of seasons he has played on the left hand side and at left wing back at times as well.

“He has been at some good clubs. Obviously Stevie has worked with him recently as well and he has always impressed Stevie. I was always impressed with him coming through at Kilmarnock even though he was a really young boy.

“He needs to nail down a position and go and score goals because he is more than capable, he has all the attributes. He has good movement, good legs, a really good left foot and can score goals. He probably needs to add more goals to his game and I am sure that is something that he will be desperate to do.”

The manager felt that Robbie should not be described as an out and out striker, more one who plays off the front.

“He has good qualities, he is tall and wins his fair share of headers. He is dynamic just with his pace and movement.”
