Vincent’s world is beautiful with Pars
Friday, 10th Aug 2018“To come here and play football in a good environment suited me. The staff, the team it is perfect and long may that continue.”
James Vincent was pleased that he was in the first Pars team to register a win over Dundee United in sixteen outings and feels that win sets the team up nicely for the challenges ahead this season.
“The boys were fantastic and as the gaffer said in the first half we kind of cancelled each other out. It was a bit scruffy although I thought we probably edged it as the more effective team.
“In the second half we made a few changes and I think that played into our strengths and from there on out there was only going to be one winner.
“People have their perceptions of where we are going to finish but within our camp we are all confident of where we can be and what we can achieve this year. We will just take it game by game and don’t worry about what anyone says.”
James is impressed by the Pars closed season signings, he added:-
“In terms of recruitment I think the gaffer and Sandy have done fantastic. I came in slightly later than everyone else but straight away I noticed that they had gelled. There was a good team spirit and that has worked in our favour. We looked strong in the Betfred, even in the games before that, we are looking cohesive and from our point of view that is perfect. We have hit the ground running and long may it continue.”
James didn’t get agreement for his season long loan to Dunfermline until 3rd July, he explained the deal went back and forth and opened up again when Willo Flood decided to move on so quickly:-
“Dundee changed the goalposts and things just dragged out and didn’t get done as quickly as I would have liked. At one stage it looked like it was dead, the club had moved on. They spoke to me and I understand why. That is football.
“The gaffer wanted to get his squad together but another chance came about again. It was perfect and I was over the moon to get it sorted.
“I enjoyed my football here last year. I was at a place where I wasn’t enjoying it so to come here and play football in a good environment suited me. The staff, the team it is perfect and long may that continue.”
James is looking forward to his first match against Ross County since May 2017 when he and Faissal El Bakhtaoui featured in the 1-1 draw at Dens Park against the Staggies.
“I think they probably have the biggest budget in the league so they will have expectations heaped upon them but we will just get on with our business.
“We know what we can do, we know what we can achieve within the squad. We know how good we have been, it is just about us keeping that consistency and we can go out and hopefully get the right result.”
In a similar way to last Saturday at Tannadice it is likely that the opposition team will include two players who were team mates last season at Dunfermline - Callum Morris and Declan McManus. James is looking forward to that, he commented:-
“On the flip side we know their strengths, we know what they can bring so the lads have a bit of a edge on them. We understand their game but we will just be focusing on ourselves.”
Such is the way in Scottish football, James will be also up against a couple of players - Ross Draper and Iain Vigurs - that he played with at Inverness as well.
James relished the support given to the team by the Pars fans who travelled to Tannadice and is fully expecting a motivating backing in the first home league match:-
“It was good for us last week and especially to get a result for them there. We have been unlucky in recent seasons. We have a brilliant backing both home and away, hopefully it will continue this weekend.”
