Allan Johnston felt that the win at Tannadice underlined how good a start his team had made to the season:-
“I think you can see that they have gelled really well and the pleasing thing for me is that having gone a goal behind at Tannadice, albeit against the run of play was the reaction from the players. It shows you the quality and the belief that they have got. I thought we thoroughly deserved the result.

“The first half was scrappy, I don’t think there was much between the two teams. There were not many clear cut chances but I still thought that we had probably edged it. Second half I thought we blew them away with the quality we had, the pace that we had and it was great to get the goals.”
When Myles Hippolyte tested the United keeper in the very first minute of the second half from a shot from 50 yards out it looked as though there had been a half time instruction to shoot on sight.
“We changed it a little bit, put the two strikers upfront just to try and cause them problems upfront. We changed the shape a wee bit and obviously it worked. It just shows you the flexibility that we have got and the players can adapt to it as well.
“It was a brilliant reaction from the fans, you could see them getting right behind the players. It is always good when they have an affinity with the players. The backing was tremendous and that makes a massive difference.
“We are just glad to get a result here. So many times we have come up here and been second best even though we have put in good performances, hopefully now we can kick on.”
The three goals in the second half came in a 25 minute period from Joe Thomson, Jackson Longridge and his brother Louis. The manager felt it was hard to single out individuals after the performance.
“I thought as a team we worked incredibly hard. We were a threat going forward. Even defensively their two goals came out of nothing. I don’t think they really cut us open with any chances.
“I can’t even remember Robbo (Lee Robinson) having a save. That just shows you how well we played.”
