Wembley winner on road to Dunfermline
Wednesday, 20th Jun 2018FA Trophy winner with York City signs for the Pars
Aidan Connolly has ambitions to play every week for Dunfermline, do well and score goals. He is desperate to show everyone what he can do and how he has matured as a result of two seasons at York City. The 22 year old explained how he arrived at East End Park to sign a one year deal:-
“I got a phone call in January asking what my situation was. Nothing came of it but now at the end of the season I had to get signed up.
Aidan was born in Dundee when his father Paddy was a player at United so he was ready to return north. Former Par and team mate at York, Alex Whittle, put in a good word about coming to Dunfermline and re-assured him that it was a good move.
“Although the football was different I learned a lot and I enjoyed my time down there but glad to be back up as well. I feel that I am a better player but you learn every day in training. As you get older you do experience a lot more situations. When you are younger you are more naive and have a blind eye to everything.”
The highlight of his career at York City came on 21 May 2017 coming on at Wembley Stadium in the 2017 FA Trophy Final to score the winning goal as York beat Macclesfield Town 3–2. Aidan was introduced as a 69th-minute substitute and he scored the winning goal in 86th minute. He commented:-
“To be fair I did not know what to expect of playing at Wembley but when you turn up the park was magnificent. You cannot have a bad touch on that pitch!”
Aidan says that he will play anywhere in a forward position and try and do his best for the team.
“As long as I’m playing although some people would say that I am better on the bench!”
