Dunfermline Athletic

Devine focused on challenge

Thursday, 7th Jun 2018

“Now that I have signed here I am really looking forward to my football next season. My focus is on Dunfermline and getting them back to where they should be.”

After completing the move from Partick Thistle Danny Devine says that he is really looking forward to playing at Dunfermline:-

“A couple of weeks ago we started talking to Dunfermline and as soon as I knew that they were interested I was definitely keen to come here. I know what a massive club it is, they are a big established club in Scotland and they probably shouldn’t be where they are.”

Danny was a Scottish Cup winner with Inverness Caley Thistle in 2015 so he was able to call on his team mates James Vincent who was at East End Park last season to have a word with him.

“He assured me that it was a good club and if I did choose to come here I would enjoy my football here.

“I spoke to a couple of other boys in the game just to ask them about the club and what it is like. Everyone was positive about the way the club is run and I am looking forward to being a part of it.”

The 25 year old did have other options but felt that the stature of Dunfermline Athletic just couldn’t be ignored.

“I had a lot of ups and downs at Thistle. My first season there was a great season finishing in the top six for the first time in the club’s history but then there was the disappointment of last season. That is football and it can change in an instant.”

His 69 starts over the last two seasons at Thistle meant that he was virtually an ever present in Alan Archibald’s side. But he sees the new start at Dunfermline as an ideal way to forget the sorrows of relegation.

“There have been big changes at the club and a lot of the boys have left. Now that I have signed here I am really looking forward to my football next season. My focus is on Dunfermline and getting them back to where they should be.”

Danny will find himself up against both his former clubs Partick and Inverness, he revealed that he had only come up against Caley Thistle as a Partick player once:-

“I am looking forward to going back and seeing some old faces but I will be wanting to beat them and want to finish above them. I want us to be as ruthless as possible. I am looking forward to the challenge and hopefully it is ones that we prevail in.”

Dundee United will be the favourites to win the Championship but there will be plenty more contenders.

“Even before the season kicks off it is shaping up to being a tough league. The clubs that have found themselves in this league now are going to do everything they can to get back to the top.

“It is a challenge that I am looking forward to and I have no doubt that with the manager, the players and the way that the club is run, that we can be up there challenging.

“You always have a point to prove, no matter where you go you have to prove that you are a good player. You can’t live off the past, it is all about what you do now in the present and going forward. I had a disappointing last season but this is a challenge that I am relishing.”
