Lewis Martin re-signs
Saturday, 2nd Jun 2018“When I got in the team and had played a few games, they came to me and made me an offer.
Lewis Martin was delighted to sign a new one year contract at Dunfermline on Friday (1st June).
“I have known about it since the end of March, it has been a while getting it done but now I’m just glad to get it finally done and able to concentrate on next season.
“When I got in the team and had played a few games, they came to me and made me an offer. The team doing well helped a big bit. We tried our best in the play offs but when they were out of the way that is when we started talking about a contract.”

The play offs were the priority for everyone and although players knew that they were playing for contracts that was not in the forefront of their minds, Lewis continued:-
“We wanted to try and get the club promoted and I wanted to leave this until the end of the season.
“When I wasn’t in the team I was working hard and now I am going to be doing the exact same. I have worked hard in the close season, even on holiday I was working hard in the gym because I have only two weeks left before we are back in for pre season.”
Lewis is now 22 and has been at the club since he was sixteen. He made his debut at Cappielow just five days after his seventeenth birthday and has gone on to amass 120 starts for the Pars in five years. He is looking forward to the new season and four new opponents. Lewis feels although it will be a competitive league Dunfermline will have as good a chance as any.
“Most teams will be looking to get in the top four, it is going to be tough but hopefully we can do it again.”
It could be a harder test in season 2018-2019 with Lewis predicting:-
“Ross County and Partick will be good teams, Dundee United are strengthening. It is going to be a tougher league but hopefully we can come back, work hard in pre season and go on from there.”
It looks like there will be a few changes to the squad given the coming and goings so far, Lewis commented:-
“We are not sure what the team is going to be, so we will come in pre season, work hard, see who is here and I’m sure that we will have a good campaign.”
Lewis agreed that a bit of freshness to the squad is a good thing:-
“It is the same every year, new players come in and do well. A few years ago Nicky Clark came in, Kallum Higginbotham came in and it will be the same this year. I’m sure that they be good enough to step up, step in and hopefully push us as far as we want to go.”
When Lewis was asked to step up from the under 19s he was initially deployed in the centre of the defence but over the last two seasons Allan Johnston has used him all across the back four and even in midfield. He is happy to fit in wherever required and admits that he couldn’t even say which was his preference!
“Obviously I have not played centre back as much here in a while so I am enjoying left back. I did well there but we will have to see what happens.
“I enjoy playing left back but if I get moved I enjoy it wherever even though it is a little unsettling. I deal with it, get on with it because it is my job to do it and I am used to it.”
