Career clicks for Lee

Friday, 18th May 2018

“It will be good to continue it on and really show what I can do next year.

Lee Robinson feels that he had the best four months of his career after signing for Dunfermline Athletic in January. On signing a new one year deal the keeper told the media:-

“It will be good to continue it on and really show what I can do next year. It was hard coming in when I did last year because every game felt like it had a massive amount of pressure on it. This year with a good pre season I can look forward to it.”

Robinson was signed on New Year’s Day and played his first game the day after winning the Man of the Match Award in the 2-0 win against rivals Falkirk. Three clean sheets on the bounce saw the stopper’s immediate worth highlighted, and Lee went on to complete an amazing season with twelve clean sheets.

“We only conceded two three or four times. To start with three clean sheets in the first three games, then a three game dip but since then we lost one in six games.

“I didn’t play for eight months and it was hard coming in when I did. My first game was obviously a big one but it sort of set the tone for my four months here.”

Conceding a mere 11 goals in 18 league games, some have described Robinson as an absolute rock in Dunfermline’s push for the play-offs.

“I always said that wherever I went next I was going to be the best that I have been. It was a start for me. Maybe you could not have expected that but 12 clean sheets out of 20 games is really good.

“It is a good achievement especially after being out for a while and how I ended up at my last club.

“I felt at 31 it had clicked for me. It worked out well getting away from the club that I was at and coming to a much better club. This is a proper club and I just knew that I had finally clicked. I feel that I have underachieved in my career but now feel that I am finally ready to do it.”

The move to Dunfermline has re-united Lee with his former team mate Allan Johnston. They had a year together and lost only four games out of 46 at Queen of the South.

Even though it was in League One they did really well winning League Cup ties over Morton and Hibs and knocking Rangers out on penalties at Ibrox.

“He wants to play football. It is great to play under someone who is positive. I know it is a big club but he is a big reason why you would want to be at a club like this.

“Don’t get me wrong I have had some great days in football but it has always felt like I am chasing something but not doing quite as good as I should.

“Now I am in a good place, with good lads and a good manager I think it will be good for me. Luckily I still play like I am young, in good shape and quick. It is like having the experience of a 32 year old but playing like a 22 year old.

“I would love to have another ten years in the game. I feel I can move as well now as when I was 21. You need to look after yourself and I’d love to get a few more years here.”
