Manager Allan Johnston described his side’s 4-0 win over Dumbarton as a solid performance.
“We knew today that it was important today that we didn’t slip up because Inverness have been getting good results. The boys were very professional, I thought we controlled the game from start to finish. Obviously them getting a man sent off always helps but even before then it looked as though it was only a matter of time before we scored.
“It was a really professional performance and good to score four goals, roll on Tuesday.”
Kallum Higginbotham struck with two goals in seven minutes midway through the first half to really finish the match as a contest, AJ said:-
“We scored some great goals, Fraser Aird’s as well, I thought he was magnificent today. Higgy was really good and we caused them all sorts of problems. It is always nice to score four goals in front of your fans.”
No one was more pleased about scoring than Ryan Williamson, his first ever in senior football. Allan explained that Ryan had been saying for weeks that he was going to score:-
“He actually said at half time that he was going to score in the second half so I am delighted for him. You see the celebration and hopefully it is the first of many.”
The manager hopes that the momentum is now going in Dunfermline’s favour:-
“If you look at the second half of the season, we are playing strongly, obviously have a bit of momentum and not losing a lot of goals. We are scoring goals so it sets it up for a really good game on Tuesday night. Hopefully we can put in a really good performance and score a couple of goals.”
Reminded that Dunfermline have not beaten Dundee United in the last thirteen meetings, the Pars manager responded saying:-
“That is all in the past, it is all about the present, how you are playing and we have got to make sure that we play the way that we have been doing recently. I’m sure the boys are desperate for the game to come on Tuesday. I am sure that they will be full of energy and raring to go.”
The manager was happy to be in a position to take players off in the second half and rest them ahead of the play off matches.
“It is always fortunate when you get in that position. It sets us up for a good game on Tuesday night.”
The match was watched by former Dunfermline striker Sir Alex Ferguson and the manager said that he had been watching the black and white video clips of the club’s success in the sixties.
“It is brilliant when you see the success and how big a club this is with the fan base. Week in week out we have a massive support following us so it is great to give them a wee bit of success as well.
“There was a great atmosphere and Tuesday night is going to be massive. We can expect a big crowd here who will get right behind the players. It does make a difference, that is how the home record here has been so good.”
