Fraser ready for Highland showdown
Monday, 16th Apr 2018“We need to take that form up there and hopefully we can get the three points.”
Fraser Aird was delighted to contribute to another important win for Dunfermline on Saturday. Coupled with having the winner of the Grand National, it was a very happy 23 year old who spoke to the press.
“Before the game everyone knew that we had to go and win the game. They know Brechin have been struggling this year but it was one of those games that you still have to go and win. It was eleven v eleven on the park and I thought the early goal settled us.
“After we scored we didn’t really do very much, we took our foot off the gas and didn’t really play as good as we should have. We had a lot of chances to bury them but we didn’t.
“They came out for the second half and didn’t really put us under pressure. When we got the third goal it was kind of easy after that. We made it a bit hard for us but at the end of the day it was three points and we move on to Inverness next week.”
Never known for his modesty, Fraser had to be prompted to talk about his goal:-
“It was the exactly the same as my first goal for the club against Livingston, I came inside and curled it into the far corner. It is always nice to get on the scoresheet and score in successive games.”
Our goal scorer thought that it may have been a first or him but clearly forgot about a goal against Brechin when he played for Rangers that followed on a cup goal against Albion Rovers. Back in March 2014 a goal at Arbroath actually meant that he scored in three successive games so another on Saturday please!
“I am enjoying my time in the team. It has taken a while to come but everyone in the team knows what I can do. The manager knows what I can do, I just need to keep my place in the team.”
The win sets up a really big match at Inverness, a match that neither side can afford to lose if they are to make the play offs.
“We went up there in the first half of the season and got beat 1-0 so it will be tough, it is always there. They are a team that came down from the Premiership after being there for many many years. But we have won four in a row and I don’t think we have been beat in eight games. We need to take that form up there and hopefully we can get the three points.”
Fraser had two assists in the game in addition to the goal he scored but he stressed that it was a team game and the objective was to take the three points.
“That is always nice, I will enjoy my weekend and be back on Monday to work again and look forward to the game on Saturday.”
Some would have considered Fraser Aird for the Man of the Match accolade but Lee Ashcroft got the vote. He praised the play of his central defender:-
“I am happy Ashy got it. I thought he was a rock back there, didn’t lose one header all game. I think our form as of recently, keeping clean sheets has come from our two centre backs being brilliant. I know big Callum got injured in the warm up, Jean came in and I thought that he was excellent.
“We needed Ashy back there, they had a few chances but to walk away with a clean sheet you have to give the defenders credit. Robbo has one or two saves to make but at the end of the day if you keep a clean sheet you always have a chance of winning.”
