New Chapter, different story for Black Cats trio

Friday, 6th Apr 2018

“During the game it’s one hundred per cent concentration then afterwards we will have a chat.

While always previously focused on their own Tyne and Wear derbies, three Sunderland players may have seemed a great distance from a Falkirk v Dunfermline derby but on Saturday they will line up in one of Scotland’s hottest derbies.

Tom Beadling, Andrew Nelson and Tommy Robson are all Sunderland players on loan to Championship clubs in Scotland so it was inevitable that the day would come when they would line up against each other.

Long time team mates at Sunderland, Tom Beadling even holidayed with Tommy. They may be friends but the Dunfermline midfielder has vowed that “Saturday will be a different story.”

“We went to the Euros together and followed the team around. We were in the fan zone for England v Wales.

“That friendship will be non existent when it comes to Saturday. I won’t be afraid to get stuck in and neither will they.”

Andrew Nelson (20) and Tommy Robson (22) have featured strongly for Falkirk since making their debuts against the Pars on 2nd January. Nelson has scored in three Falkirk’s last four games. Tom continued:-

“We are mates off the field as well and go back a long time. We were a good few years together at Sunderland and this adds another chapter to it. It will be exciting!”

Beadling followed his team mates north when on 30th January he joined Dunfermline on loan until the end of the season. He revealed that he hadn’t spoken to Andrew and Tommy this week,

“I’ll wait until after the game I think. During the game it’s one hundred per cent concentration then afterwards we will have a chat.

“We see each other maybe every other week for a coffee and catch up. I am happy for them and glad that they are doing well. They are good lads and all the best to them.”

Tom is confident ahead of his first match at the Falkirk Stadium:-

“We have had a few good results and we are looking to build on that and finish the season strong.

“There is a good mood in the camp and that has come from winning games. Wins like against Livingston on Tuesday helps to build team spirit. There is belief in the camp that we can do it, that is the plan.”

Tom was high up in the away end at St James Park the last time Sunderland defeated Newcastle United and happily recalls Adam Johnston’s 90th minute winner. Predicting that the derby match against Falkirk on Saturday will be a feisty one, Tom said they would all be ready for it.

“I know what a derby means to fans and well aware of this one too. We will be working hard to make sure that they enjoy the day as well.”

The 22 year old feels that he has settled in well at Dunfermline. He has been an ever present ever since making his debut at Cappielow on 3rd February.

“From day one I have felt right at home here and I think that has showed. I feel that I have settled in with the lads fairly quickly. The first few games were tough, the league was a lot different to what I was used to at Sunderland. It took me a bit to work that out but I feel that I have coped well.

“I came here to play as many minutes as possible, get games under my belt and I have played every minute since I have come. It has been ideal and just what I needed.

“I am very grateful to the manager for how he has treated me. He took me straight in, trusted me and believed in me. Hopefully I am repaying him with performances.”
