Lewis Martin: “We need to get as many wins between now and the end of the season to make sure that we are in the play offs.

“I thought that we have played well in the last few games but Queen of the South have done well too beating Dundee United and drawing with Livingston. We know that it will be a hard game but we are all looking forward to it and hoping that we can get a win.”

The 21 year old defender was played in midfield the last time Queen of the South came to East End Park. Reflecting upon the 5-2 defeat Lewis said:-

“It was a bad game, we didn’t perform at all. They did well to be fair but we know what they are like so we will definitely be up for it.

“We are due a win against Queen of the South and hopefully we will get it this Saturday.”

Having started the first six matches of the season, Lewis made only four starts between 9 August and 13 March and obviously feels that it has been a frustrating season. He continued:-

“I have not really played that much. Four games in a row has been as much as I have played for a while. It is good to be back in the team but it was disappointing watching from the sidelines.

“Since I came in we have done well with two wins and two draws. We just need to keep that going until the end of the season and it is good to be involved in trying to get into the play offs. Apart from a few bad results the boys have done well for most of the season.”

While out of the team Lewis trained hard to be ready to make his return when required, he added:-

“You just have to keep train going as hard as you can. You go away and do a bit until the gaffer gives you a chance again. I have my chance just now and hopefully I can keep my place until the end of the season.”

Any position will do Lewis as long as he is in the team. He has made 120 league and cup appearances for Dunfermline and most of these have been in the centre of the defence. Allan Johnston has seen Lewis’ strengths in a wider role:-

“The gaffer likes me at full back so if he wants to play me there, I am happy to play wherever he wants me to play.”

Up until the New Year the back four had a near ever present line up of Williamson, Morris, Ashcroft and Talbot. Opportunity has come Lewis’ way as a consequence of Jason Talbot’s suspension following his red card against St Mirren on 10th March. Suspension to Callum Morris had also cost the Pars captan his place and only regained it when Lee Ashcroft got ill, he subsequently getting back his place when Jean Yves M’Voto sustained injury.

Lewis is out of contract at the end of the season and is well aware of the need for him and the team to finish the season strongly.

“Whoever comes in needs to take their chance. I just need to play as much as I can, hopefully do well and see what happens at the end of the season.

“The majority of the players are playing for a contract, that is a good thing because everyone will be trying hard, we all want to get into the play offs.
