Tough going for Tom v `Ton
Monday, 19th Mar 2018“We didn’t lose the game and we are still close enough to fourth place
Tough was how Tom Beadling described playing on Saturday. He told the media:-
“We know what to expect from Morton, they know how to grind out results and that is what they did today. It just wouldn’t fall for us and it is another game that we should have won.
“We didn’t lose is the positive and we are not out of the play offs so we will keep going.”
22-year old Beadling is a product of Sunderland’s Football Academy which he joined at the age of eight. The midfielder went on to become a regular in the club’s U23 side. He joined Bury on loan in January 2017, making two appearances before returning to the Black Cats and coming on loan to Dunfermline Athletic in January until the end of the season.
Tom has started every game since making his debut at Cappielow on 3 February. It took him just 23 minutes to find the net that day only for Morton to fight back and score a winner in the last minute.
Tom came close to scoring his second Pars goal against Morton on Saturday when he struck the bar with a good second half chance. He was disappointed that he had not done better:-
“I score these nine times out of ten in training, it just didn’t happen for us but we will go again on Tuesday night and at the weekend.
“We should have won by a lot more goals in the last game, we only won 1-0. We need to finish teams off and be clinical upfront. It is frustrating for us but we have the opportunity to keep going."
Only a few weeks ago manager Allan Johnston was complaining that his side were drawing too many matches and the goalless affair against Morton was the team`s ninth from 28 games. Tom agreed that draws instead of wins were not helping the team`s play offs ambitions.
“You could say that and Saturday is a fine example of that. We have to take our chances, me especially. On another day it goes in but what can you do.
“We didn’t lose the game and we are still close enough to fourth place. If we grind out results in the next few weeks we will be in or around it."
