Allan Johnston acknowledged that games against Morton are always hard games.
“I thought in the first half that there wasn’t much between the teams. We probably played the better football and got in to really good areas, it was just that final pass that let us down. We had a couple of half chances that we were unlucky not to score from. They still looked a threat in the first half as well just with the pace and movement they have upfront.
“Second half I thought we totally controlled it and we should have won the game. We have had really good chances and we just need to take our chances and be more clinical.”
The Pars manager dismissed the suggestion that Morton came for a draw:-
“It is not the way Morton play, they go and try and win every game. I don’t think that you can come to teams and try to just play for a point. They are obviously good on the counterattack, that is the way they play - you could see that in the last couple of games when they punished us.
“I thought we defended really well today, we restricted them to very few opportunities and we looked a threat going forward as well. We had two or three chances there where we had to score, it is as simple as that and that is what makes a difference.
“We hit the post, we hit the bar and I think there were another couple of really good chances as well. We are not far away, there were a lot more positives than negatives today, a lot of good performances, I thought we controlled the game for large periods. We just need to turn these performances into wins.”
There is a chance on Tuesday with the game in hand against Brechin City at Glebe Park to place more pressure on Morton and boost the goal difference and close the gap to just one point. AJ said:-
“You can see that we are not losing goals just now which is pleasing. We look really solid and it gives you that foundation. When you start the attacking play like we did today and creating the chances then I am sure that the wins will come.”
Reminded that his side has only scored one goal in the last five games the gaffer replied:-
“You could probably say that we had two or three really good chances there. I think we looked a lot more solid as well. I suppose you can turn stats any way if you want to look at stats, the main thing is closing the gap. We need to make sure that we win on Tuesday night, it is as simple as that. Then it is whoever finishes the season strongly, we have to make sure that it is us.”
