Pars players hungry for success

Callum Morris feels that the competition for starting positions is exerting more pressure on players to get back into the starting eleven and that has helped the whole team.
“When you step outside the eleven you are more demanding upon yourself to get back in there. That has probably helped everyone because when you go back in you have a point to prove. Everyone is hungry to show what they can do.
“I think that worked quite well on Tuesday. Boys who hadn’t been playing came in and did well. That has happened throughout the season, big Jean came in when I was suspended, he came in and did the same thing. It freshens everything up, pushes everyone on to make a competitive squad.”
Callum looks back on the games at Livingston, Dumfries and Paisley as matches where the team did not do enough in both boxes.
“We got the clean sheets that were brilliant, the boys have done well to do that especially when we didn’t create much. That was one of the main positives from Tuesday night, we had chances cleared off the line, the keeper was made to make good saves, we hit the post. Now it is taking these chances that bit further and finishing them.
He felt that Dunfermline outworked Inverness before they outplayed them. Everyone was working hard:-
“Come second half we started to get back to some of the football that we were playing at the start of the season. We created a few chances and should have scored a few more.”
If there were any dips in confidence it has been quickly shaken out of players because there are people behind them ready to step in. Callum confessed confidence behind the scenes has always been there, it just needed translated on to the pitch.
He has made 30 appearances for the club this season although his start on Tuesday was his first since 3rd February. Whether in or out of the team, Callum fulfils the role of club captain, leading by example especially in trading:-
“I give as much if not more in training every day to get back in the team. I do that anyway to set an example to the boys. I never let my head go down, I would never be negative and always put a positive spin on things.”
The play offs are still the target although Callum conceded that if they make it, they will have done really well to get there.
“We will be on a good run which is what you want going into play off games. You do not want to be stagnant and waiting for them to come around. It will stand us in good stead come the end of the season hopefully.
“You don’t need to be in screaming and shouting at people. I think you can lead by just showing boys how to do it right. I think that is what I have done.
“Lewis Martin is in the same boat but he has trained brilliantly. I go a long way back with Lewis, back to when he first got in the team, I thought that he was excellent then. It just shows you the depth that we have in the squad.
“Suspension has maybe come at a bad time for Jason (Talbot) but Lewis is there hungry and eager to play. He did brilliant and that is how you keep in a team. He is no surprise to me.”
Three points on Saturday are really important since five points separate four team chasing the third and fourth play off place. Callum noted how close the league has become:-
“It just shows you how inconsistent teams have been. I have said all season long that it is all about how consistent you can be. We need to put a consistent run together which we are more than capable of.
“We are looking forward and being positive. On the back of Tuesday we can go into Saturday with confidence, get the three points and just go on step by step.”
