Allan Johnston was pleased with the home win over Inverness but more so for his players and the fans.
“They have stuck by us and it has been difficult over the last few weeks. Obviously we have been on a poor run, we know that ourselves and it is great to get a win especially since we were back at home. You could see how much it meant to the fans and the players. Hopefully we can kick on from here.
“The pleasing thing for me is the number of chances we created tonight. In the last few weeks we have not created as much but tonight we could probably have scored a few more goals.”
The win takes Dunfermline to within four points of fourth placed Morton with a game in hand so Saturday’s fixture against Morton at East End Park is one to look forward to. AJ continued:-
“There are no easy games in this division but it is an opportunity to close the gap again. I am delighted for the boys who have not been playing regular. Some of the guys like Lewis Martin who came in and did exceptionally well. Big Callum Morris was a leader on the pitch, Kallum Higginbotham is another one and I thought him and Ryan Williamson linked up well.
“There were a lot of good performances and when you look at the strength of our bench as well with the number of games coming up, you can see that it is going to be really important over the next couple of weeks to have the depth of squad like we have.”
The manager was asked if he would agree that Dunfermline were due at bit of luck over Saturday’s opponents Morton:-
“You know that you have to be switched on against Morton, they have got a lot of pace upfront, they are dangerous at setpieces. We know them and have played against them that many times.
“It is never an easy game and I’m sure that it will be really close but we are at home and we have to be on the front foot. We need to put in a performance like that, work hard and we will create chances and get that wee bit of luck as well.”
Even though his side had gone six league games without a win the three points from this game coupled with Morton’s draw at Livingston imeans that a play off place is still very achievable. AJ said:-
“It is amazing the difference a win makes. We know that we have to follow that up with more wins and more performances like that. When you look at the players that we have got, we are capable. We know that we want to be in that top four, that is the target. We know that it is going to be difficult. We have made it difficult for ourselves over the last few weeks with the results but now we just have to make sure that we do the business on the park.”
Inverness Caley Thistle manager John Robertson said that it was frustrating but the best team one.
“No complaints Dunfermline deserved to win the match tonight. I didn’t think that there was much in it early on. We lost the goal at the free kick and that gave us something to chase.
“I thought for the rest of the first half we showed enough passing and movement to get from box to box quite well. We didn’t have the cutting edge to get in behind them.
