Thursday, 8th Mar 201808/03/18: AJ - “It doesn’t come any harder than St Mirren away and if you look at the next four or five fixtures they’re really difficult.“
Allan Johnston has been thankful for the facilities at Ravenscraig that has allowed his squad to train during the wintry weather that disrupted everything in Central Scotland over the last week.
“We’ve been quite lucky that it’s not affected us too much. Obviously, there were a couple of days where we couldn’t get through because we couldn’t travel on the roads, but I would imagine the majority of teams would be the same.
“We’ve still been training and we’ve managed to get the work done we wanted to. So, I’m quite happy with the preparations even though the fixtures are mounting up but we’re all in the same boat.”
Saturday sees Dunfermline Athletic travel to Paisley to meet the league leaders, he continued:-
“It doesn’t come any harder than St Mirren away and if you look at the next four or five fixtures they’re really difficult. But it’s an important period and if we can put a run together we can climb up the table.
“If you look at the table, they’re still miles ahead and they’re a good team. They’ve been really consistent this season. But we just need to focus on ourselves because we need to get wins.
“We’ve had far too many draws, so if we want to kick-start our season we need to get wins, and hopefully we can do that at the weekend. I think it would be a massive boost to everybody if we could go there and win the game.
“It’s hard to predict results in this league and everybody’s got to play everybody else. But, from our point of view, hopefully we can take care of our side of the business and end up in that top four because that’s where we want to be.”
On the availability front AJ revealed:-
“We had a couple of wee niggles earlier in the week, but we seem to be fine now, so the squad if looking okay. Michael Paton is still the same, still struggling. So, we’ve got Sean Murdoch and Aaron Splaine, and young Stuart Morrison out as the longer term ones as well.”
Michael Paton has been out since coming off in the 63rd minute of the home match against St Mirren on 26th January. AJ said:-
“Paton is still the same and we’re still trying to get to the bottom of what’s wrong. He’s been to the hospital but we need to make sure he’s 100 per cent before he returns to training.”
