Manager on Monday

Monday, 26th Feb 2018

26/02/18: AJ - “No disrespect to them but it is against a team at the bottom of the league and we have got to be winning these types of games.”

Ahead of the match at Brechin on Tuesday night manager Allan Johnston lamented his side’s failure to take three points from games and claimed that they need to be creating better opportunities:-

“We have had far too many draws. It is pretty clear that we need to score more goals. We have been defending better when you see the amount of clean sheets that we have had, but obviously we still need to be a threat going forward.

“We are probably not creating as much as we would like, especially with the amount of forward players that we have on the pitch. We know that we have to improve that side of our game but we have not been far away.

“In the majority of the games that we have played recently we have probably been the better team. We have probably created better chances and it is just about being clinical. We certainly need to create more.

“The frustrating bit recently has been getting over the line. We need that game where you score a couple of goals to kick it off. Hopefully we can put a run together but we need to do it sooner rather than later.

“It is not as if we are sitting back and defending, we go and try and win games. We know that side of our game has to improve. We have been a threat a setpieces to be fair but from open play and round about the box we need to be more creative, we need to pick the right pass.

“There were a number of times on Saturday we were in really good positions and it was just about picking the right pass at three v twos. We need that bit of quality, somebody to beat somebody and create that yard of space for somebody else.”

While hoping that a fixture against bottom of the table, Brechin City will kick start a resurgence the manager is warning not to take Darren Dods team for granted:-

“Brechin have definitely improved, they have brought in a lot of new players, somebody from Dundee, one from Aberdeen and a striker from Livvy. If you look at the Falkirk game a couple of weeks ago it went right to 90 odd minutes before Falkirk scored.

“It is one of those games that you have to approach right. It is a game that we need to try and win. No disrespect to them but it is against a team at the bottom of the league and we have got to be winning these types of games.”

The Pars squad came through the away match at Palmerston on Saturday and the same squad is available for the trip to Brechin. The manager is pleased to have competition for places and says that the team is desperate to get a few goals and put in a decent performance.
