Black Cat sheds the red for black

Tom Beadling was impressed when he came up to Dunfermline to train with the club and was pleased that the Pars management liked what they saw too. When the deal was done both parties were delighted.

Born in Barrow, Tom has been at Sunderland since the age of eight but the need to experience first team football was what interested him in moving north. He explained:-

“About a week and a half ago I got a phone call to come up. I spent a few days here and did a few training sessions.

“I need first team football, that was my priority and that’s why I came here. I need to establish myself at first team level so that’s the plan.”

The 22 year old trained with the first team at Sunderland but his only first team appearances were while out on loan last season at League One, Bury.

Tom’s only competitive matches this season have been two Football Trophy matches for Sunderland under 21s against Doncaster Rovers and Grimsby Town. He described his style of play:-

“I like to get on the ball, pass the ball but work hard as well to win the ball back. I like to start play from deep and I hope to score a few goals as well. The majority of time I have played in defence.”

His new team captain Callum Morris has already been winding Tom up rekindling the Newcastle- Sunderland rivalry.

“Callum sent me a tweet saying finally I will be wearing the right coloured stripes. Cal has been great for us.”

Another rivalry on the horizon will be when he comes up against his Sunderland team mates Tommy Robson and Andrew Nelson whose path north he was to follow. His mates are now at Falkirk but they were able to assure him that football in Scotland could be recommended

“It will be a new experience but when I spoke to Tommy and Andrew they said that they enjoyed it.”

Tom is available and hopes to be handed his debut in Saturday’s Ladbroke Championship match away to Morton.
