Daniel Armstrong Signs

Wednesday, 31st Jan 2018

Dunfermline Athletic are pleased to confirm the signing of Daniel Armstrong on loan from Wolves.

20-year old Daniel Armstrong started his career with Hamilton Academical before sealing a move to the West Midlands in 2015 where he signed a three-year-deal. The winger who has represented Scotland at under-17 level joins the Pars on loan until the end of the current season.

Speaking to this website, Daniel said:-

“I moved to Wolves when I was 18 years old. There was a lot of interest back then and I had a few options in where to go. Wolves was my choice because they were a team that was really keen for me to join them. It is a great place with great facilities and it felt like a good opportunity.

“I have been playing in under 23s football but now I am looking to get some first team football. Luckily enough Allan liked the look of me so I have the opportunity here now to go and prove myself at a higher level. I need experience of playing men’s football.

“I am just glad that he liked the look of me when I came up to train here. I am a wide player and can play anywhere along the front line and off the striker. I like to get at players, I like to create chances and score goals. I am positive going forward and like getting in behind defenders and causing them problems.

“I prefer playing wide left or right. I have probably played more on the right but I am comfortable on the left as well. I am left footed, I like getting balls into the box, delivering from setpieces, taking corners. I like creating chances but hopefully I can get a few goals myself.”

The option to leave Molineux to come to Fife appealed most to the 20 year old who added:-

“Hopefully I will get a chance here to work my way into the team. It is up to me to work hard, train well and pay the gaffer back for signing me. I am just happy to be here.

“It was a very good standard down south but it was not first team football. I want to kick on now and prove myself at first team level which is where you are going to be judged.

“There is a lot of good players, a lot of big teams down there but I want to prove myself in first team football. Hopefully I can be selected and involved on Saturday. If I get on I will try and give my best for the team.”

For Allan Johnston this was his third signing in as many days, he claimed:-

“It has been a bit hectic, typical when you are trying all month to bring players in and it’s good to add a bit of freshness to the squad and competition in a lot of areas because it certain areas we have been a bit short. Hopefully that can push us on.

“He can played left, right and can actually play behind the striker as well. He has got pace, he makes runs off the ball and gives us something different. Whereas our wide players are more getting on the ball and coming in, he will try and get in behind defences.

“We have been lucky enough to have had him up in training for the last week. He played in a bounce game last night as well where he scored one and created one. That is what you are looking for your wide players to do.

“He is only a young player but he has loads of confidence. It is a big step up coming up from the under 23s, hopefully he can adapt to it and come in and do well. It is obviously good when big clubs like Sunderland and Wolves allow some of their younger players to come up on loan to get experience. Hopefully we can give them a platform to go and play and helps both parties.”

The manager has been really impressed with Daniel since he has come up to train at Dunfermline, he added:-

“His attitude, his work rate, his desire to come in and do well and show that he was determined to play in the game las night to show that he wants to be here. That’s the kind of players you want.”

With this being the third signing this week, Allan Johnston commented:-

“We have a big squad now and it important now that when you are in the team that you do well because you could find yourself in the stands very quickly.”

Are you pleased with the business that you have managed to do in this transfer window?

“Obviously we have targeted a lot of players in January, you get some and you don’t get some but overall we are happy with the players that we have brought in.

“I think that we have been a little light in the middle of the park so it is good to have a bit of freshness in there and a bit of competition. There has maybe not been enough competition in there and we just have to hope that we kick on for the second half of the season.”
