Dunfermline Athletic manager Allan Johnston was naturally deeply disappointed with his team`s Scottish Cup exit. He told the media post match that he felt that Dunfermline created the better chances, especially in the first half.
"At the goal they scored there were shouts for offside. It must have been very tight but it was hard to tell. It was disappointing to lose a goal against Morton in the first half but credit to the players I thought they battled back in the second half to get a hold of the game again and scored a really good goal through Declan McManus.
"We were on the ascendancy at that point and we are obviously disappointed to lose the second goal in the manner that we did."
Prior to that there had been plenty of chances for Dunfermline to take the lead especially from Nicky Clark only minutes after Declan McManus`s 57th minute equaliser.
"Over the balance of the game, the chances we had even in the first half - Joe Cardle had an incredible chance, I don`t know how the keeper kept Nicky`s header out, it was an incredible save.
"We got into really really good areas and I thought Ryan Williamson was incredible at times getting forward and putting really good crosses in the box but they defended really well and we have to take our chances when they come along."
The gaffer felt that a winner would have followed the equaliser:-
"Their two goals - it might sound like a hard luck story - but the first one we are saying was probably very close to offside and the second one was potentially a free kick on that. They are big decisions but at the end of the day we have to take our chances as well. When they come along we have to make sure that we score them."
Jai Quitongo scored in the 90th minute to win the Ladbrokes Championship at Cappielow earlier this season and it was another late strike from the 20 year old that won the Cup tie for his side. AJ agreed that Quitongo was yet again the curse of Dunfermline:-
"He is a good player, he has strength and he has taken his goal well. We are disappointed but we have to move on to another massive game on Friday night. It is one to look forward to and hopefully we can get the result that we are all looking for."
