A squad of Pars youngsters took to the road again this week under the guidance of First Team Coach, John Potter.

Following the highly successful trip to the Academy of Light in Sunderland before Christmas, the young hopefuls headed for the Newcastle United Academy for a match against the Magpies Under 18 side.

The Pars team, made up of primarily Under 17’s from the Fife Elite Football Academy, supplemented by 3 of DAFC’s young full-time players, eventually went down 3-1. The Pars trailed 2-0 at the half-time interval but were back in the game after a Lewis McCann cross was converted by Ross Hain. The Pars youngsters were eventually caught on the break as their North-East opponents scored a late goal to seal the match.

John Potter commented “It was difficult being 2-0 down at the break but I thought we were excellent in the second half and only lost the third goal as we were pushing for an equaliser. But what another great experience for the lads and what fantastic facilities Newcastle have here”.

Again, as with the Sunderland trip, the cost of transport and money for meals on the journey was provided by the Margaret Ross Memorial Fund, set up by the Pars Supporters’ Trust in memory of their late Chair and DAFC Director.

PST Chair Drew Main added “We were only too happy to provide assistance again, as helping the young players was always something Margaret would try and do whenever she could. It’s great for these youngsters to experience different playing environments and I’m sure it’ll stand them in good stead as they strive to progress in the game”.
