Allan Johnston felt that it was a good three points for his team. He told the media:-
"I thought that we started really well. We scored a goal worthy of winning any game, I thought it was a great pass from Dean Shiels and it was a bit of magic from Joe Cardle just coming inside and putting it in the top corner.
"Fair credit to Dumbarton they came back in the second half and put us under a lot of pressure without really creating any chances. I don`t think our keeper really had any saves. We probably had the best chance of the second half when we hit the post. They did put us under a lot of pressure so it was good to grind out a result."
The first half was very one sided and AJ agreed that they should really have had the result out of sight by half time.
"We passed the ball well, created chances but in the second half they came right back into the game and went a bit more direct with Christian Nade. They caused us problems without really being threatening in front of goal."
The manager agreed Dean Shiels put in another great performance but desisted any further comment, he said:-
"I thought the fans today were brilliant. They got right behind the team and it was a cold one out there. You could see the park was really soft and it was really hard conditions to play in. That is the ones too often this season where we have dropped points, drawn or got beat. It is good to get the three points and another win."
For Dunfermline that is three league wins on a row and after what the manager termed a blip he was pleased that the momentum appears to to building:-
"It is hopefully and with a big game next week. Over the last couple of seasons we have not managed to beat Dundee United. It is a massive one for everyone because we want to keep in contact with them and it would be great to get a result."
Further pressed on Dean Shiels he was asked with persistence, if he had any concerns over starting the player, Allan replied:-
"No, he is an experienced pro and I have spoken to him. He can handle the situation, he has played at big clubs and had a lot of stick before. Obviously there has been a lot of media attention as well but it just shows you the professionalism that he has got that he can handle it and put in such a good performance today."
The manager confirmed that seventeen year old Craig Burt replaced Cammy Gill on the bench due to Cammy going down with an illness.
"Cammy Gill wasn`t well. Thursday he was off and he came in on Friday to train but he was really struggling being sick. When he phoned up this morning he was still struggling so it was a good chance for young Burty to be on the bench."
With Sean Murdoch suffering from an injury it appears a good move having secured the services of Lee Robinson.
"It is unbelievable how these things work out at times. We are quite fortunate, Lee has come in and he has two clean sheets. That is important to us because we need to get clean sheets if we want to push up the table."
