Nat jingles bells with welcome win

Friday, 29th Dec 2017

"They have surprised everyone with how well they have done this season.

It could have been a blue Christmas had the Pars not registered a win on Saturday. Nat Wedderburn`s wife and children were mightily relieved to have Nat in good form for the main event two days after the team`s first League win in eight. The big man told the media:-

"It was good to get the win. It has been so long and hopefully that will breed more confidence."

His three year old son, Roman, would like a goal scoring Dad and is too young to understand why the sitting midfielder doesn`t score goals. However, Nat was instrumental in providing the opening goal against Brechin. His pinpoint pass across field to pick out Nicky Clark allowed the striker to dink the ball back across the face of goal for an easy finish for Declan McManus. He said:-

"In the first half we passed the ball around well and scored a good goal. I spotted that the pass was on and Nicky did brilliantly to head the ball across for Deccy to score.

"I think after we scored the second goal, given we hadn`t won for a number of weeks, the nerves started to kick in as we were so desperate to get the win."

When Brechin got a goal back just ten minutes after Michael Paton had made it 2-0, there was still over half an hour remaining. Nat continued:-

"When that happens after the run that we have been on, you panic because you are so desperate to hold on to get the win.

"I think when things aren`t going your way, you do lose confidence and don`t do things you would normally do.

"That happens, throughout a season - every team will have that time when results aren`t going their way and things are not happening. Confidence is a big thing it football so we all want to take the confidence from the victory over Brechin and move forward."

Speaking ahead of the postponement of Saturday`s Championship match against Livingston due to adverse weather, Nat acknowledged that the two previous meetings with them this season have been "difficult tests"-

"They have surprised everyone with how well they have done this season. The first game of the season there was difficult but in the game here we managed to get the win. Hopefully we can go there and get one.

"Livingston make it hard for you on their smaller pitch. They play three big boys at the back, everyone seems to know their jobs in the team. They work hard but we will try to match them and let our quality shine through.

"They are up the table fighting for positioning as well, so we know it`ll be a tough game."
