Allan Johnston said that he could not fault his players attitude and effort.
"I thought they have everything and put in a really good performance. We certainly did not deserve to get beat today. If we keep playing like that then obviously results will turn."
The major talking point in the game was referee Craig Charleston`s decision to award a 64th minute penalty and then change his mind.
"I think what happened was that the linesman actually gave the penalty and then the linesman changed his mind, whether it was because the crowd or the players getting on his back.
"There were a lot of decisions for both teams which were poor today. It obviously caused a lot of problems for the referee."
Expanding on the `no penalty` incident the Pars manager said:-
"It looked as though it was a clumsy challenge in the box, it is hard to tell from our video but Ryan (Williamson) is not somebody who is going to dive. Whether it is a penalty or not, I don`t know.
"The linesman thought at the time that it was a penalty but looking at our video it looks like the one in the first half was more of a penalty on Kallum Higginbotham when Davis blocked him.
"The referee got a couple of big decisions wrong but we know ourselves that when we get chances we have to make sure that we take them. We created enough chances today and in the end that is probably what let us down."
When you say that the referee got decisions wrong, does that include the one to show Sean Murdoch a yellow card when possibly a red was warranted?
"You could maybe look at it that way, Gavin Reilly was going away from goal and actually running towards the corner flag. We had players back so it is hard to say if he got that wrong.
"When you look at the amount of bookings we got for a start, I don`t think we had more challenges than St Mirren yet we got five bookings. I don`t understand where that comes from, it is not as though they were bad challenges. St Mirren never got any bookings so I find that a bit strange. In a competitive game like that you would imagine that it would be pretty even."
The second half was much better performance that in previous matches. The manager reminded everyone that was against a quality team that indeed now tops the table.
"We are disappointed not to get something. It was a good performance but at the end of the day it is three points that we need. We need to make sure that we follow this up with a really good performance against Brechin and get the three points."
