United should be wary of Paton aces

Friday, 1st Dec 2017

Michael has played for Dunfermline against Dundee United twice and on both occasions he started and he scored.

Michael Paton is hoping the trip to Tayside will change both his and the Pars fortunes. The team is without a win in their last four league games and Paton has not started since the Irn Bru Cup tie at Buckie twelve weeks ago. The winger who is rapidly becoming a utility player, told the website:-

"It is frustrating not playing but it is good to see that we are well up the table. Maybe the performances have not been as good as they were at the start of the season and even though we have not been playing at our very best, we have still been getting results."

The two home draws in the last two matches can be viewed as four very important points dropped, four points that would have seen them level with their opponents Dundee United going into Saturday`s match at Tannadice. Michael thought that coming back twice from behind against Dumbarton was the only positive that could be taken from the last fortnight.

The 28 year old who is in his third season at East End Park is clearly happy to accept any role as long he gets a start. He finished last season playing at left back against Queen of the South and began this season in centre midfield.

"I thought I did really well playing there before I got injured. They showed confidence to put me in there, I am happy with that. I can play on the wing as well but the boys that play there are playing well just now."

Michael has played for Dunfermline against Dundee United twice and on both occasions he started and he scored. He recalled:-

"I scored in the League Cup and I scored against them in the league at home this season so I have not a bad record against them. Hopefully that is my team to score against and I will score again on Saturday if I get the chance."

Dundee United kicked off the season as hot favourites to win the Championship this season but currently trail St Mirren by two points. They sacked their manager when sitting fourth and trailing the league leaders by five points. Michael feels that the Pars are every bit as good as St Mirren and Dundee United and success will depend on which club can go on a run. Michael recalled the first meeting at East End Park:-

"It was a bit of a doing. We started the season really well, hit a rough patch but we are still there or thereabouts. Hopefully we can turn it around on Saturday and get another three points."
