Equaliser in Nick of time
Monday, 27th Nov 2017"We don`t know what the problem is just now but we will work it out as I said starting on Monday."
Like everyone around East End Park, Nicky Clark was far from happy after taking just one point from Saturday`s league match against Dumbarton. He felt that if Dunfermline Athletic had a real ambition to win promotion, they had to be winning as many of their home games as possible:-
"To go and win the league is what we want to be our main achievement this year so we are disappointed and more with the performance more than anything.
"We really weren`t good enough right from the start and we managed to scramble a point in the end but it is two points dropped."
The 89th minute goal headed home by Nicky took his season tally into double figures. The only praise that manager Allan Johnston gave his players was sticking in right up until the final whistle, revealed the goalscorer:-
"We kept going when we lost two goals, battled away and fortunately managed to get the goal to equalise. At the end of the day we feel that we lost two points."
The inability to take the desired six points from the two home matches this week indicate a sticky period for the team:-
"We need to dig in, we need to stick together as a team and keep fighting. We will come out the other end of it, we know that. Every club will go through a spell in the season like our one just now.
"We cannot put our finger on the reason for this but it is up to us to get it right. From Monday morning we need to start working on things and get back to what we were doing in the first few weeks of the season.
"We dropped two points, we are disappointed with that but we need to pick ourselves up for a massive match against Dundee United. We need to go, perform well against them and hopefully pick up three points."
Concern now has to include potential dent in confidence, something that Nicky accepted but dismissed:-
"When you are not winning you lose a bit of confidence but we have players in the dressing room who have played loads and loads of games at a higher level. We know what we have to do. We don`t know what the problem is just now but we will work it out as I said starting on Monday."
