Managers` post Dumbarton

"Probably a draw is a fair result but that is not good enough for us, we should be winning games against Dumbarton.
- - Listen to this Allan Johnston Interview
Allan Johnston was really disappointed with his team`s performance claiming that it was nowhere near good enough.
"I thought we were miles off it right from the start. I know that it is the third game in a week but you have to show more, do things quicker, pass the ball quicker, you have got to move and we just have that intensity of play that we normally have.
"Probably the only plus was coming back and getting the goal at the very end after they scored a wonder strike."
The management team had made all three substitutions with twenty minutes still remaining. The manager said:-
"It just wasn`t good enough. We tried to get as many forwards on the pitch to try and get a goal. Thankfully we did that but we know ourselves individually and collectively, that we need to do a lot more. The boys know that, you are going to get spells in the season where you maybe don`t hit the highs and don`t play as well.
"Sometimes you have to grind out results but you need to win games like that especially at home. We are disappointed and we have to make sure that we are back for a massive game (versus Dundee United) next week - it is a hard place to go - and bounce back strongly.
"They are really disappointed with their performance. They want to do well and you can see that everybody is frustrated - myself, the players and the supporters. You can tell that everybody knows that we should be doing better, that we are much better than what we showed. It was a bad performance, you are going get sometimes bad performances as well, so we are thankful that we managed to get a point because when you play as poorly as that, more often than not you lose the game.
Two points from the long awaited home games makes it a disappointing week, AJ agreed:-
"We are shooting ourselves in the foot when you look at the league table, these have got to be wins. Morton is a hard game to be fair but no disrespect to Dumbarton, with the quality that we have got we should be blowing them away when they come here to play.
"We let ourselves down, we let the supporters down but hopefully we can make up for it next week."
The manager was slower than usually in coming to speak to the media after matches and he was asked if that was due to him having a lot of words with his players?
"We all want the same thing - we want to be successful, none more so than the players. Everyone of them wants to do well, so we know that we have to learn lessons and make sure that doesn`t happen again. We cannot afford to put performances like that out. We have to improve and fix the problems that there have been in the last couple of weeks."
Told that Dumbarton manager Stevie Aitken in his post match analysis had said that it felt like a defeat, AJ responded:-
"They weren`t brilliant, it wasn`t as if they deserved to win the game. They scored a wonder strike so you have to be realistic as well. Probably a draw is a fair result but that is not good enough for us, we should be winning games against Dumbarton. A draw is not good enough, we need to be more clinical and we have to get that intensity of play. Not just in terms of getting close to people, it is passing the ball quicker, movement off the ball like we were at the start of the season."
