Fife Cup Semi-Final: Paul Allan (26) 1-0: Matty Todd (29) 2-0:

This Fife Cup tie was abandoned after 50 minutes after an ambulance was called out to deal with a serious leg injury to Pars midfielder Aaron Splaine. The tie will need to be replayed.

John Potter led the Dunfermline Athletic side to Kelty on Wednesday night to face Burntisland Shipyard in the Semi Final of the 2017-2018 Fife Cup. First team squad players Cammy Gill, Lewis Martin, Aaron Splaine and Michael Paton joined four on loan players - Stuart Morrison, Paul Allan, Brandon Luke and Conner Duthie - and younger players for the match at New Central Park.

First attempt of the tie came from Duthie bursting through from half way in the second minute and blasting over from 25 yards out. The Shipyard survived an early corner before Gill had to be out sharpish to clear a weakily hit pass back and next he palmed a free kick from the right side away for a corner on the left. That led to a second where the Shipyard were penalised for pushing.

Duthie and Luke exchanged passes on the left and got in a useful cross in 12 minutes but Josh Robertson skied his shot from the edge of the box. Paton was on target with a powerful strike three minutes later but a defender blocked the effort.

Next Luke got in a shot that rebo Need back for Owen Andrew but keeper Ryan Connor pulled off a fine stop. Dunfermline were stepping it up and Connor was required to block another and watch a Josh Robertson cross out to safety.

Matthew Todd`s break from a Shipyard corner led to a corner at the other end but the defence came out on top. Then in 26th minute the Pars made the breakthrough. Paton held the ball up on the left and teed it up for Duthie to drive a stinging shot from 25 yards that Connor did really well to keep out but ALLAN followed up to net the rebound. 1-0

Quickly Connor was in action again blocking Splaine`s shot but the keeper could not prevent Matty TODD burying the ball n the bottom left of his goal to double the Pars lead just three minutes after going ahead. 2-0

When Robertson was cut down by Scott Powrie, Paton had the opportunity to lay in a 40th minute free kick from the right edge of the Burntisland box but Martin`s connection was destined to go wide right. Luke next provided a chance but the keeper stopped Paton`s attempt.

Half time: Dunfermline 2 Burntisland Shipyard 0

Burntisland were under the cosh straight from the restart with both Todd and Andrew evading the offside trap to run on to Duthie`s ball from just inside his own half. It was Todd who pulled the trigger but Connor pulled off a good save. Duthie and then Todd had powerful shots that were stopped before play was halted for a serious leg injury to Aaron Splaine.
