Playing for Club and Country

"It will come down to the most consistent team over the season who will win it and we have to make sure that is us."

Dunfermline missed the chance to go back on top of the Championship last weekend. League leaders St Mirren were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Morton while the Pars went down 1-0 away to Inverness Caley Thistle. As that left the gap at three points, Callum Morris felt that was a missed opportunity.

Next up is the trip to Falkirk but as a derby fixture current form traditionally means little. The Pars skipper said:-

"If you look at the table we are up the top and they are down the bottom but that means nothing come Saturday. It will be whoever prepares right, who is most up to it and who wants it most. We have to make sure that it is us.

"We have to keep in the mix because it is such a tight league. Everyone can beat everyone so we have to make sure we concentrate on each game as it comes and get as many points as possible. If we can stay near the top of the league come the end of the season then there is all to play for."

St Mirren`s failure to take full points did not surprise Callum who feels that teams will take points off each other throughout the season.

"At the start of this season more than half the teams in the league had the belief that they had a real chance of winning it. We have gone about our business quietly. We knew that we had to start the season well because last season was killed off because of our poor start.

"We have started well but it is only a start and we need to be consistent and keep picking up the points. It will come down to the most consistent team over the season who will win it and we have to make sure that is us."

The Falkirk Assistant Manager is Jimmy Nicholl and since he also holds that position for the Northern Ireland national team there is an added incentive for Callum to enhance his chances of being selected as part of Michael O`Neill`s squad.

"For me that`s a bonus that someone will see me play personally. If I play well and the rest of the team play well then we get the win. The main focus is on the game itself."

Callum missed the Pars last visit to the Falkirk Stadium in the Irn Bru Cup due to international duties. He has been called into the last two Northern Ireland World Cup squads, quite an achievement for a player who has played at least two thirds of his senior games as a Dunfermline player. Modestly he claimed that his call up was a `by product` of not just how he has been playing but the way that the whole team has performed. A win on Saturday at Falkirk should certainly help form Jimmy Nic`s opinion. Callum concluded:-

"I think people have been starting to notice the way that we have been playing football. Not just winning games but the manner in which we won them. It reflects on everyone, not just me."
