Striker out to smash the hoodoo

Friday, 3rd Nov 2017

Declan McManus is hoping to be able to make a contribution to a Dunfermline derby day win over Falkirk on Saturday

The 23 year old striker is well aware of how hard it has been for his current club to get a result at The Falkirk Stadium. He told the media:-

"We have not won there for a while and there is a bit of a hoodoo about going there. That is there to be smashed. We need to try and get three points and hope that other teams slip up to allow us to climb back up nearer the top of the league."

Of course Falkirk, now under the management of Paul Hartley, will be hoping for the same thing. It was Hartley who gave Declan his first ever senior start when they were both at Alloa. That was playing upfront alongside Andy Kirk at Peterhead in the 2013-2014 League Cup and it was for Hartley that Declan scored his first senior goal against Morton in December of the same season.

The Pars striker recalled his experience of Paul Hartley as a manager:-

"When I was at Alloa we were the small team in the league, it was a battle for points and to try to stay in the league. At Falkirk it`s the opposite, they want to climb up the league and ultimately win the league.

"They have had a bad start but I don`t think they will see themselves as out of it yet. I certainly wouldn`t if I was there because they have good players and showed that in the last few seasons.

"Paul`s teams are always set up properly to be hard to put. I am pretty sure that he will be trying to get this Falkirk team playing in the same style of play. We just need to go and do our job and if we play to the best of our ability then we can take care of them."

At Alloa, Paul Hartley brought a professional approach to the part time club.

"He looked for professionalism from everybody. He will have Falkirk well drilled and knowing exactly their job.

"Sometimes a new manager gets them fired up but the league is tough wherever you go. Coming into a derby game their form against Queen of the South doesn`t matter. You just want to go and win the game."
