Pars performance disappoints Sean Murdoch

No one wearing black and white could disagree with Pars keeper Sean Murdoch`s assessment that Saturday`s defeat at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium was a disappointing result.

"It was a big game, all the games are massive but we just didn`t perform. We have got standards and to be fair we never achieved those standards and in my opinion in the end it was a fair result. Inverness were probably a better team than us."

The goal that turned out to be the match winner came midway through the first half from a cross from former QPR trainee, Jake Mulraney. It looked as though something went wrong to deceive the defence and allow Connor Bell, the one striker there, to convert. Sean described what happened:-

"They got the cross in and Lee Ashcroft tried to clear it. It nicked his foot and just fell to the guy at the back post. It was a wee bit fortunate on their behalf but we need to do better as well.

"It is always good to make saves, it is what I`m there for and it is important to make saves. I am just really disappointed with the result, as I say we didn`t meet the standards and when that happens there is only going to be one result - a defeat.

"We didn`t create much. We have great flair players, great attacking players, players who can make things happen but for some reason we just didn`t perform today. We can definitely perform a lot better that we did.

"Next week is a new game and we will dust ourselves down and work hard in training.

Dunfermline`s inability to win in Inverness was extended to seven visits with this defeat but Sean felt that the Highlanders as the team relegated from the Premier League at that end of last season, were probably much better than their early Championship form and league position suggested:-

"Before the season started Inverness were touted to be up there. They have had a very poor start but they have good players. Lots of teams have good players in this league and it is probably going to go down to the wire. It is whoever puts a run together will be victorious in the end."

With St Mirren being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Morton the Pars are now three points off the top. Livingston leapfrogged them back into second and Dundee United`s win over Dumbarton means that they draw level with the East End Park club on 20 points. Sean was relieved that the leaders dropped points as well:-

"We looked at the other results and they probably went for us but you know, as I have said before, there are probably six teams going for one spot. It is very competitive and very exciting for the fans as well. We just have to make sure that we are up at that end come May time."
