Dunfermline Athletic manager Allan Johnston was disappointed to lose to Dundee United especially since he thought that there was very little between the teams:-
"If you look at the first half to be 2-0 down at half time was very flattering for Dundee United. To be fair to them I thought that they were the better team and we have to learn from that.
"When you lose a goal you have to handle it better, got to still work as hard, do the right things and keep your shape. Maybe we were a wee bit naive in the second half and got caught on the counterattack.
"We never played anywhere as good as what we have been playing. The majority of the first half I thought that we were slightly better. Then they got the killer first goal. It was just a counterattack, we gave the ball away but we still have to defend it better.
"These are the things that we need to learn from but there is a long way to go. We have played really well against the majority of the teams. We have a lot of quality players but you just have to handle how you losing goals.
"We have a lot of young boys, hopefully they will react in the right way and start putting another run of results together."
Asked about the potential outcome of a dent in confidence that at the same time boosts Dundee United`s the gaffer replied:-
"We know that we can play miles better than that. I don`t think that there is much between the teams. I wouldn`t say that we are miles better than St Mirren or Inverness or Falkirk.
"I don`t think that we played anywhere near as good as we can play. We just have to make sure that we look after ourselves and get back to the level of performance that we have done in previous games."
The league campaign now takes a week off to coincide with the internationals weekend but the Irn Bru Cup will see the Pars take on their close rivals Falkirk with the players that are left.
"It is the cup so there is a chance to maybe look at a couple of other things as well and maybe a couple of other players. It is an opportunity, even though we have a few away with internationals as well which is brilliant for the club.
"It is another one to look forward to, a good atmosphere and it would be a great one to win for the fans as well."
