No questioning Lee`s goal
Monday, 25th Sep 2017"If we keep winning, we will stay top of the league.
Lee Ashcroft is adamant that the opening goal at Brechin on Saturday definitely belongs to him. The 28th minute strike might have taken a slight deflection but nothing was going to take that goal away from the centre back.
"No chance, I think it went through the keeper`s legs and it is definitely my goal. The boys did not question it, Declan tried saying he got a touch but he was only winding me up. "
Lee has now taken his total of goals for Dunfermline to six and remarkably three of them have been against Brechin City at Glebe Park. He continued:-
"I scored two here last year and I think you come here confident. I was just hoping to add to the tally but it was a much harder game than last year. I don`t think we started very well and they had a great chance early on when we got a couple of great blocks in.
"They played really well in the first half to keep us restricted to 1-0. I certainly don`t think that we were at our best in the first half. They stopped us playing and pressed us high. Hats off to them it is going to be a hard place for teams to come and play. I`m sure that they will start to pick up results here because they don`t make it an easy game."
Attentions now turn to the next match which is against a Dundee United side that went second after defeating Morton 2-1 at Tannadice. Lee acknowledged that all the games in the Championship are hard and said that you don`t want to underestimate anybody.
"I think at the start of the season Dundee United were rightly favourites. But the way we have been playing at home we have all the confidence in the world to go and beat them.
"I know they will be thinking it is going to be a hard place to come given the way we have been playing at home. So if we can that keep up that home form then there is no reason why we cannot beat them as well and stay top of the league."
Last season United proved to be unbeatable with Dunfermline managing just one draw in the six meetings in league and cup competitions. Meeting Dundee United should serve as a benchmark of just how much the team has come and feels that there is no questioning Lee`s ultimate goal this season:-
"Everyone in the changing room knows what we are capable of. We underachieved last year finishing fifth. This year we have had a much better start than last and if we can keep that up and keep our performances up, especially at home as well as pick up as many points as we can away from home, then we will have every chance in that league.
"When you look at results every week they are always different so we just need to keep concentrating on ourselves. If we keep winning we will stay top of the league.
"It is good for the Scottish game that the league is so competitive in the Championship never mind the top league. Every game is a hard game but we just need to stick in and take it a game at a time."
