Trip down the Clyde ends in tears as Morton claim late winner

Like the rest of his team mates, Callum Morris was gutted by the last gasp winner on Saturday that gave Morton a victory. The home side came back from two goals down to draw level before grabbing a late late winner. The Pars skipper reflected:-

"We have had a good start to the season and we had a good start to the game."

Indeed a Joe Cardle strike inside ten minutes and a Kallum Higginbotham conversion from a 33rd minute penalty had put Dunfermline into a commanding lead.

A 47th minute Morton goal reduced the advantage that Fifers had enjoyed at the interval. Callum admitted that his weak pass back let former Par Robert Thomson in to score and that heralded a phenomenal comeback by Jim Duffy`s team:-

"I have got to put my hand at the start of the second half that gave them a lift. That gave them momentum to go on and take control of the game.

"We stopped playing and didn`t do the things that we have been doing so well this season. It is disappointing but it is the first time that it has happened this season so it is something that we will learn from now and have to rectify on Saturday.

"It is individual mistakes. These are things that hopefully never do again. It is not as though we completely crumbled as a team. It is just one of those moments in the game that change the game and that`s past now.

"It is early doors in the season and we know what we have to do now to rectify Saturday. The only positive is that it is the first time that we have been in that position all season. We don`t want to do that again so we will have to learn from it."

It was the ambition to win that probably cost Dunfermline the three points. They were pushing for a winner when a breakaway lost them the match but the Pars skipper felt that they had set themselves in the right way for their corner in added time:-

"We have to do better in all areas. We can`t leave it open at the back like that with 30 seconds of the game to go. It is those mistakes that we need to work on. The second half was not good enough and it has let us down."

Morton had taken a grip of the game and got it back level but two added time Dunfermline corners had raised the Pars hopes. Lee Ashcroft did get a good header on the first requiring Connor McManus to clear of the line. Then it was a long clearance from McManus that caused all the heartache:-

"When we got the corner we set ourselves up like a normal corner. Whatever has happened happened and we lost the game. We will look at it again and hopefully turn it around on a Saturday."
