Double Success in August Awards
Thursday, 7th Sep 2017Dunfermline Athletic have claimed the Ladbrokes Championship Manager and Player of the Month awards for August after a superb start to the season.
Allan Johnston was voted Manager of the Month and in-form winger Joe Cardle landed the top player accolade after netting five league goals in four matches.
The Pars were held to a 1-1 draw at Livingston in their opening game then beat Inverness Caley Thistle (5-1), Falkirk (3-1) and Dumbarton (4-0).
Dunfermline are a point clear at the top of the Ladbrokes Championship going into Saturday’s game against Morton at Cappielow.
The manager commented on the club`s double achievement:-
"I have been lucky enough to win a couple so I cannot complain. You get the award because the team is doing well. It is not an individual award like a player`s award it is everybody pulling in the same direction. The staff, the supporters, the players most importantly and a lot of people behind the scenes as well.
"It is always great to get awards, I am not going to lie, but the most important thing is to win the league. Promotion is what we want and it has been a good start to the season.
"We just cannot lose our focus, we have to make to keep on playing with the quality that we have been playing with, the pace we have been playing with and scoring a lot of goals.
"Defensively we are not losing goals so at the moment we are in a good place."
Warned of the Manager of the Month curse that struck Jim Jefferies when at Dunfermline, AJ said that we had won these awards before and never been cursed.
Joe Cardle lifted the Ladbrokes Championship Player of the Month for August and he was very pleased with the award.
"It is the first of my career. What a difference in six months, it is unbelievable but just the highs and lows of football."
