Wedderburn wary of former club

Saturday, 12th Aug 2017

Nat Wedderburn: "Being the home team, the onus is on us and we fancy beating anyone at our place.

Nat Wedderburn feels that Dunfermline should treat the Betfred Cup match at Ibrox as a learning curve and take that into the Ladbrokes Championship.

"We have to try and correct the mistakes that we made and try and put them right on Saturday in our next big game. Rangers were a different level but we will not come against many teams of that quality in our league. If we can put them right I feel that we will win more games than we lose in the league.

"Losing that early goal raised Rangers tails and we let our heads drop. It became difficult. They were quick and sharp and from every defeat we must learn. We need to try and bounce back."

The first opportunity to bounce back comes when Inverness Caley Thistle are the visitors for Dunfermline`s opening home league match of the season. Nat spent season 2015-2016 at Inverness making 11 starts and seven appearances off the bench. He accepted that it wasn`t the best of times in his football career but claimed that he learned a lot in the Highlands.

"There have been a lot of changes there from Chairman to managers and players. There are only five or six players there from my time there and I am not sure what to expect because of the different staff. There are a few decent players there and I am sure that they will be on or around the top of the league at the end of the season.

"I got experience of European football early on in the season there. That has gone now and I just want to concentrate on Dunfermline getting the win on Saturday.

"We need to regroup, get a reaction and get back to the levels that we are capable of."

The 26 year old midfielder, who began his career with Stoke City and had spells with Notts County, Hereford United, Northampton Town and Corby Town, before manager Allan Johnston made him first signing after his side won the League One title and promotion for season 2016-2017.

Reflecting on the first league fixture a 1-1 draw against Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena, Nat called it scrappy:-

"The performance wasn`t the best. They did what they did and they did it well. We showed a bit of character in the second half and we were a bit better. It was the first game of the season, we can`t look too much into that, we have to keep improving."

The Pars have done well in the two competitive matches played at East End Park this season scoring 11 goals. Nat summed up about the Inverness match:-

"Being the home team, the onus is on us and we fancy beating anyone at our place. Coming down from the Premiership they will be confident that they can go straight back up. I expect them to have a go."
