Fraser Aird signs for Dunfermline

Thursday, 3rd Aug 2017

"Dunfermline think they should be pushing on for promotion and that is why we are all here."

Twenty two year old Fraser Aird signed for Dunfermline on Thursday, making the Pars his third Scottish club. He told the media that the manager was keen to sign him.

"I was in a few days training and when it came together we just got it sorted. I am looking forward to getting started.

"I was away and if anyone wanted to have a look at me I was away. But with the chance to represent my country in a major tournament I was never going to say no. It was a great experience for me still being 22 and being involved with the national team.

"It is something I will remember for the rest of my life. It was my first Gold Cup but once it finished I put my head down to try and get my club career sorted. I am delighted to get that over the line, I am raring to go and can`t wait to get started."

Fraser made 24 appearances last season, 10 for Vancouver Whitecaps in the Major League Soccer, 13 for Falkirk and one for Canada against Scotland at Easter Road where he scored. His contract at Falkirk was only for six months and with a desire to experience life at another club Dunfermline fitted the bill:-

"I enjoyed my time at Falkirk, the coaching staff and all the boys were good. We fell a bit short in the play offs but hopefully I can do one better and get promoted.

"I am joining the club at the start of the season, which is good if I can get a full season under my belt hopefully I will get back to playing the way that I know I can."

The new boy was born in Toronto to parents who left Scotland in 1987 but he has now been in the country for over six years and treats in as his home.

"I enjoy Scotland and have lots of friends here - cousins, aunt and uncle. I know about the rivalry between Falkirk and Dunfermline and experienced a bit of a taste of it towards the end of last season.

"I missed the game at the Falkirk Stadium but I was on the bench for the match at East End. It got a quite heated but I`m sure that there will be no hard feelings and this is the club that I play for now. I want to do as well as I can."

The performance against Hearts suggested to Fraser that right now would appear to be a great time to be joining Dunfermline. He commented:-

"The boys have started off flying. It gets us even more excited for the game at the weekend against Livingston. Hopefully we can take care of that and get a result to go into the match against Rangers next Wednesday. It was a great draw for the club."

Fraser Aird made 62 appearances for the Gers and the self confessed Rangers fan will be pleased to the return:-

"There will be mixed emotions but I am looking forward to it. I hope to impress obviously I know Nicky Clark and Dean Shiels from my time there. Nicky was excited for me to get the chance to join Dunfermline. When I came in for the trial it made it easier that I knew him and Dino. All the boys have been good since I came in."

Aird can play on either wing with a preference for the right.

"The manager wants options and the more options that the manager has the better it is fit him. It is a long season though, there are injuries and dips in form. It is League where Dunfermline think they should be pushing on for promotion and that is why we are all here."

What can the fans expect from Fraser this season?

"Very direct like getting on the ball, taking players on and setting up and scoring goals. I spoke to the manager and told him that I`d hope to score double digits this season, that is one of my personal goals. I want to help the team out as well as I can."
