Skipper Callum Morris says qualification is no more than the Pars fans deserve

Following on three pre season matches in which Dunfermline scored in just one match, Dunfermline have scored 13 goals in their four Betfred Cup games conceding just three against. Callum Morris felt that concerns over the Pars indifferent form in pre season were unfounded as he led his side to win Group B of the Betfred Cup, he told the media after the match:-

"I think as a squad we knew what we had it in the locker and as games have gone we have got better and better. We have come to Tynecastle and we have shown against an SPL team and got an opportunity to show what we can do against one of the best teams in Scotland."

Some may say that now was an ideal time to face Hearts on the back of a disappointing result against Peterhead in midweek. Callum dismissed the suggestion saying that Dunfermline did not really think that much about Hearts.

"Although its the cup it is still sort of pre season and we have been concentrating on ourselves. Apart from the two goals we are pleased with how it was went."

The Pars captain felt that after four good performances Athletic deserved to top the group.

"We have done really well and we need to take that into the Championship now. It is always good to pit yourself against - on paper - a bigger team and better players, and I think we acquitted ourselves well but we don`t want to get carried away. The season still hasn`t kicked off until the Livi game on Saturday.

"We will take the positives out of it which is loads but there were also things that we need to work on. We will look back on that next week.

"We have signed some great players and with the boys who were here last season, we will go about our business quietly, improve day by day, week by week and see what happens at the end of the season."

Callum has valuable experience at a higher level at Dundee United but he recognises that the squad is shaping up nicely with the kind of experience that will be necessary:-

"It is not just me, there are players like Higgy and others who have played at massive clubs - Rangers and that kind of thing. Last season we played Hamilton in the cup and played them off the park twice, it came down to penalties and it was not a nice way to go out.

"I think there is a lot of belief in the squad now which maybe last season at the start, there wasn`t. After the back end of last season the boys know that we have something special now, we have brought in players to add to it and in the last four games we have done really well. We want to keep our feet on the ground and keep working hard."

Callum is concentrating on the first league game of the season against Livingston now and would rather not think about the draw for the next round of the Betfred Cup. There was, however, a joyous time celebrating with the fans before the Dunfermline side, almost reluctantly, eventually left the park. The Pars skipper praised their contribution and felt that the size of the support was at a Premier League level:-

"I have been through a lot with the fans and they have stuck by the club and by the players. Why I stayed this season was because of the fans, how loyal they have been and the feeling around the club. It is such a positive place to be.

"The fans have been brilliant and it was right for us to go over to them at the end to thank them all. We are all in this together and we are all pulling together."

Callum felt that for 1132 to travel to Tynecastle the team has to put on performances that the loyalty warrants.

"They have been great and it has helped us to thrive off the support in the first few games. Hopefully we will kick on now into the league season."
