Allan Johnston felt that it was a huge positive that his players scored nine times without a failure in the penalty shoot out to determine the destination of the bonus point at the conclusion of the Betfred Cup tie against East Fife. He said:-
"Going into the season that is a major boost. We did practice them the other day but sometimes that is unrealistic in practice. When the pressure was on the boys stepped up and I thought the standard of penalties from both sides was incredible."
AJ compared the penalties success with the shooting during the games when he noted that they could not hit the target.
"That was one of the surprises at the end but I did think that in the second half we totally dominated and the goal felt that it was only a matter of time but we could not find that wee bit of quality to get the goal that would have made the difference."
The new artificial surface at New Bayview could possibly be cited as a cause of the lack of success during the game:-
"We lost about four balls (over the wall) in the shooting in the warm up. It was just the ball going away from them really quick. It is a new Astro and it does take a bit of time to bed in.
"I think it was the same at Falkirk a couple of years ago as well. It was really difficult at first but I think it will be a good surface once it beds down."
Dean Shiels came on midway through the second half to make his Dunfermline debut, the manager commented:-
"Once he came on I thought we settled down and we passed the ball really well. It was also good to see young Scott Lochhead come on and do well. Callum Smith came on and made an impact when he came on as a substitute."
