Aaron reunited with old boss

Thursday, 15th Jun 2017

"I felt that I should just sign, get a team and start again."

Aaron Splaine has been signed by Allan Johnston for the second time in his short career. He told the website:-

"I was with him at Queen of the South and then he took me to Kilmarnock with him when I was only 15 or 16. I enjoyed playing under him because I always got on with him. I played alongside him at Queens before he took the manager`s job and then went to Kilmarnock."

Aaron was given his senior debut at the age of 18 when Gary Locke started him against Ross County in May 2015. He went on to make eight appearances for Killie the following season.

The central midfielder who was born in Spain brought up in Newton Stewart missed last season after breaking his right foot on holiday. He said that was a really annoying year:-

"You are used to training every day but instead I was in the house doing nothing. When I tried to come back the doctor said that I could play and went to Stranraer just to keep fit but in the first training session when I kicked a ball I just knew that my foot wasn`t right.

"I went to see specialists and they injected it with steroids, went to Stranraer again to get my fitness up before going on trials to Leeds and Burnley. It didn`t work out there and I ended up here."

The experience of training with the English clubs has given confidence to Aaron and created an ambition to get back to playing. He was delighted when Allan Johnston got in touch with his agent:-

"When my agent phoned me up he pointed out that I could go back out on trial at teams but I felt that I should just sign, get a team and start again."

The 20 year old has signed for one year and hopes that he can get regular games and help Dunfermline win the league. With Allan Johnston in charge of Dunfermline Aaron revealed that he had taken special interest in the Pars progress over the last two seasons. Another assuring factor is that he has played with Lee Ashcroft, Kallum Higginbotham and Nicky Clark before.

"I am not looking forward to pre season, nobody does but my foot is fine now." Pressed for a personal option of his strengths Aaron added:- "I try my best all the time, even if we are getting beat 5-0 I still try to the very end."
