The Pars travelled to Airdrie on Friday afternoon full of confidence after crushing East Stirling 7-1 in the SFA Youth Cup last Sunday. This time a sole Blair Henderson goal was enough to win three points for the Fifers at the Excelsior Stadium.
Motherwell started off well with a couple of early chances but in 11 minutes a mistake by Darren Brownlie on the right touchline allowed Ross Drummond to steal possession. His pass reached Allan Smith but a block on his attempt landed perfectly for Blair HENDERSON in front of goal to open the scoring.
A Ross Millen effort from 22 yards in 21 minutes was deflected for a corner and another from him ten minutes later hit the post. Just before the interval Jack Bruce brought down an opponent in the box but Ryan Goodfellow dived to his right to deny Stevie Hetherington, the Motherwell penalty taker. There was still time for Scott Campbell to clear off the goaline to keep the Pars ahead at the break.
Goodfellow made a good save at the feet of Kieran McGauchie early in the second half and after Munro lost possession the hosts produced a fine move but McGachie was blocked in the box. A Motherwell free kick in 59 minutes created another chance when Zane Francis Angel put over a useful cross. Ten minutes later McGachie headed wide and he repeated that with Well`s next chance.
Dunfermline were under considerable pressure in the second half but their defence held out well to survive and take the points back to Fife.
