U19s v Kilmarnock

Saturday, 9th Sep 2006

The U19s had a convincing win over their Kilmarnock counterparts in this SPL League match played at the Fleet Grounds on Saturday morning.

DUNFERMLINE 4 KILMARNOCK 1

Under 19s

The Pars got off to the best of possible starts with Davie MUIR opening the scoring in the fourth minute. Scott McBride delivered a cross from the left wing that Muir fed into the path of Sean Muhsin. His well struck shot was blocked by Killie keeper Peter Logan but when the ball broke to the left Muir was handy to slot home from 10 yards.

From a Muhsin corner on the left five minutes later, Nick Phinn produced a fine glancing header that was cleared on the line suspiciously off one of his own players. Phinn immediately had another chance just 12 yards out but the defence did just enough to prevent him scoring.

A second goal was forthcoming however from a Phinn free kick on the left side. The flighted ball into the six yard box was fodder for MUIR to head simply into the centre of the goal. Ten minutes later Muir who was proving quite a handful with his strength and height, was fouled in a central position and from the free kick McBride shot narrowly wide right.

Kilmarnock came back into the game with David Cox rounding Neil Fenwick to chip a shot that was deflected by Scott Anson`s header passed trialist keeper Darren Stewart. Fortunately the Pars Anson was in an offside position. Next Iain Flannigan cut in from the left and released a shot that Stewart had to tip over the crossbar. The corner was headed wide.

Muir latched on to a through ball in the 38th minute and his pass set up Muhsin but he completely miscued and the ball went well wide left. Kilmarnock continued to suggest that the result had not yet been decided and Stewart pulled off a fine save from Anson just two minutes before the break.

An early second half chance developed for the visitors after a burst to the byeline allowed an inviting cross travel into the Pars box to be cleared. It was 52nd minute before Dunfermline threatened to increase their lead when Muir headed a Clark Kay free kick on to the junction of post and crossbar.

Just three minutes later Alan McDonough produced a fine through ball for McBride but just short of composure he screwed his shot wide. The build up to the third goal again came from the left. Muir was at the back post and the ball then reached PHINN at the edge of the box and he slotted home.

Kilmarnock forced several corners and with twenty minutes left they eventually got a goal from one played over from the right. Stewart punched clear but the ball was headed on to the crossbar and subsequently netted. A fourth Dunfermline goal underlined the Pars supremacy when McBride`s corner was poorly defended and Clark KAY was able to control and shoot home from eight yards.

Killie did have one further chance but Patrick Halpin made a good clearance to leave it 4-1 in the end.
