Reserves v Queen of the South
Monday, 4th Mar 2019SPFL Reserve League: Monday 4th March 2019, Palmerston Park kick off 2.00pm
Queen of the South Reserves 0 Dunfermline Reserves 2
Goals one in each half by Callum Smith and Brandon Luke secure a good away win at Palmerston Park on Monday afternoon. Queens kicked off but really it was Dunfermline in control from early on. A Lewis Crosbie cross was first to create danger with a low cross, Lewis McCann had a shot blocked and then Smith was sent away only for keeper Ryan Gibson to come out to halt.
Crosbie had sent a shot high over the Queens crossbar before a good interchange between Brown, McCann, Smith and then Crosbie set up another opportunity but no one could get a shot in. Gibson gathered a Lewis Sawers cross and McCann benefiting from a Smith pass, had his shot blocked by the keeper.
The opener came in 20 minutes and it was a well worked goal. Dunfermline attacked downthe right, Brown to McCann who released a great pass to Crosbie and he cut the ball back for Callum SMITH in front of goal to slot it away 0-1
The Fifers kept up the pressure with Smith winnng a free kick midway inside the opposition half. Sawers took it short to Allan and his ball into the Queens box won a corner on the right. Crosbie’s delivery was headed away by Harvey and another corner followed this time from the left. Again Harvey’s head cleared the danger.
Queen of the South forced a 31st minute corner after Brown made a good tackle on Currie and four minutes later the defence had to deal with a decent cross in from the left. Luke and Sawers combined to manufacture a 36th minute opportunity but the final ball in search of McCann was too strong.
The Pars continued to create opportunities. Swanson had a cross headed clear, Sawers was sent away but the keeper came out to block and then Sawers sent a Smith through but Gordon made a telling tackle. Then a low Crosbie cross flashed through the Queens box with McCann unlucky not to get the vital touch.
Having had the majority of the play Dunfermline must have felt that they should have been further ahead at the interval.
Half time: Queen of the South Reserves 0 Dunfermline Reserves 1
Swanson in 55 minutes and Sawers two minutes later both had attempts that just cleared the Queens crossbar. Smith continued the trend scooping a McCann cut back over. Queens had a couple of corners and Craig Burt had to make a save from the second.
Smith tested the keeper before in 79 minutes Brandon LUKE turned on the edge of the of the box and fired a shot into the left side, just evading the diving keeper. 0-2
The three points were never in any danger after that and for the remainder of the match it only looked like the Pars would have further increased their advantage. It was a deserved victory that could have been even more comfortable than a two goal margin.
